The Romagna was selected at the end of the nineteenth century from pigeons "real", most likely derived from the ancient Ascolano Colombo and named so by Callisto Chigi (father of Prof. Alessandro Chigi, known scholar of poultry) at the end of 1800.
It 'a pigeon of large size (about 750-850 grams), rather short, heavy flight, feathers smooth and shiny, solid trunk and collected, bearing horizontal or slightly raised.
Head smooth and of medium size. Eye of medium size, iris orange, black on white, white lids.Beak slender, slim, straight, wattles nasal poorly developed, smooth and white. Strong neck and full, broad chest, prominent, broad back, strong wings, tail carried horizontally closed, strong legs with feathers on the tarsus abundant and up to 10-12 cm long (a time there was also a variation in tarsus naked now no longer recognized .)
Colors: white, black, purple, red or black with rods or hammering. They are also permitted piebald and throttle.
