Origin : The Antwerp region. Late 19th century Antwerp Smierel was a copy of the Liege gull, a pigeon from 300 to 400 grams, it was in that period used in the Antwerp as race-racing pigeon. Later the Antwerp Smierel became what it is today: the toughest of the gull pigeons by crossing heavy breeds with longer head.
