Thanks Hato-san,

The time we meet will be at 9:30, or 10:00 at west9, 1st floor lobby.

Kikuta-san,

it seems we are only participants tomorrow.
Let's meet at 10:00 at my students room.

By the way, I am not sure how many people at street in Jiyugaoka will
hear us ask for interview.
And our chair and covering are pretty heavy to carry.
Why don't we do usertest at Ookayama station in front of
Tokyu hospital?
I suppose we can do much more usertests there.

What do you think Mina-san?
If you have made something, please sent them to me by tomorrow morning.

If anybody can do another usertest, it would be better to test something
in Jiyugaoka.

Kikuta-san,
please think about how to get many test results.

I can make copy at Ookayama West9 bld.
See you tomorrow.

my cellphone number is 090-7832-6544.

Hey all,

So sorry for the late reply. I've been busy with another mini-project that I have been charged with.
How are the results for today?
Also, are we still meeting to conduct the experiment tomorrow?
I will try to get up by 8AM tomorrow so if there IS some fieldwork and someone reads this message in time, please give me a call.
Thanks in advance!

Senri-san,

I am sorry for my late reply, too.

We got three people usertest yesterday. I think the number and result is
sufficient as Umemuro-sensei said it must be more than one.
Kikuta-san, you had very good job approaching to elder people.

Kikuta-san has the results, and is going to make a report.
maybe it could be three case reports.
(I suppose it's mainly in Japanese because result is of cource in Japanese. )
We could not get anser for map portion, because we didn't have
sufficient material to explain to the testers.
In addition, a pliceman came to us and told we need permission from
Denencyohu poice office to use street. So we moved to our Campus.

if you think of further experiments, please conduct it.
today, my student room must be open.
otherwise, Senri-san, please help to make usertest report for Monday.
I will convert it into ppt presentation.

Some considerations of our prototype design would be needed for user report, too.
Kikuta-san, please let Katuski-san know the result as soon as possible.

Thanks

Hi Otsuka-san,

No no, please don't be sorry.
Thanks for the good job. I'll love to have the Japanese version by today, so that I can spend tonight reading through it and prepare some deductions/materials for our presentation. I've categorized our report into a few categories, as follows:

1) Aim of User Testing
2) Settings of User Testing
3) Results of User Testing
4) Deductions from User Testing
5) Conclusion from User Testing*
* Our direction from now till the end of our finished product

I will elaborate further on these after I've read the user testing results by Kikuta-san.

Thanks Senri-san,

if you are in Oolayama Campus now,
in my students room there are a copy of survay sheets.

That's 1st floor in the west part of West9 building.
room No.is 110(?), the nearest one from the enterance doors.
Envelope is on our prototype chair, with my name on it.
please call me when you get there.

If you are not in Ookayama, please get them from Kikuta-san
maybe by internet.

Anyway, please talk with Kikuta-san and discuss who is in charge
of things to do.

sorry for late reply.

Today I have to ready for an international conference workshop, but make a report in yesterday's  result.

First, I made Japanese ver.

And now ready for sending the result of questionnaire.

ユーザーテスト

作成したテストを実際に高齢者の方に利用してもらいその感想を聞いた。テストは一人につき大体20分。

6/25(木) from 10:00 to 12: 00

10:20-10:40

Today have an AI meeting from 17:00 to 19:00, so I will add another data later Thanks.

Thanks for working on user test, Otsuka-san and Kikuta-san!!
I read the results and they seem positive fot our work, that's good thing!

I could find one result says the height of chair is a bit too high so my idea of solution for this opinion is to prepare some defferent heights in a set of chairs. For instance, there are 4 chairs and 1 table per set so the heights of chairs can be 350mm, 400mm, 450mm and 500mm.(I changed the height slightly in the "jiyugaoka st1_sketch.jpg") Hence people can chose their favorite one from 4 options according to their stature and their condition of legs.
This defference may be too much, so it needs to be discussed probably.

I prepared images for the next presentation. So please use them for PPT.

Data detail

1. Sketch_scenery.jpg: Concept image of the current shape.

2. Sketch_Detail_dimension.jpg: Standard dimension of chairs, also our prototype.

3. Sketch_seriese.jpg: Explanation of set of chairs.

4. Sketch_seriese_other options.jpg: Design study of combination.

5. jiyugaoka st1_sketch.jpg: Main image of current design.

New suggestion

New idea i put on jiyugaoka st1_sketch.jpg is to create "Tree chair" in a set. You can see one of the chairs has a hole on it and a tree comes up from it. I think it provides relief feeling when you find these products and it may provide slight shade from sun and small refuge from walking people's eye. It also can be a symbol of rest space. Although one chair is gonna be not available, it may help to put affective aspect for our products.

Then I won't be on line on whole Saturday and daytime of Sunday. So if there are any point should be changed, I'll have a look on Sunday night and revise it until Monday morning. So I'm looking forward to receiving your comments, guys!!

Best,

Katsuki

Hey all,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I've read through and I'm proposing the following

1) Aim of User Testing
- Obtain user response on the physical attributes of our product, i.e. outlook, recognizability to gauge the projected acceptance of our project by our target group
- Observe and obtain user response on the affects experienced while using our product prototype which contains the main essence of our actual intended product to verify our intended affects
- Obtain target users' feedback to recognize their hidden needs

2) Settings of User Testing
- The User Testing Exercise was conducted on Thursday, 27 June 2009 from 10:00 to 12:00 at Ookayama Station and within the Ookayama Campus
- Date, time and location were chosen for a few reasons
- Since it is intended for daily use, a normal weekday was chosen over a weekend as it is covered by our intended usage period
- It was decided to be conducted in the late morning/afternoon as it is expected to be the time period whereby our target group would likely be out on the streets for various purposes e.g. taking a walk
- The location was chosen for convenience, and also because it has been observed that the Ookayama Area enjoys a diverse crowd with a sufficiently interesting environment that in turn increases the usability of simple directional devices

3) Results of User Testing
- Common feedback obtained from both sexes include "Seat Height is just nice", "Comfortable to sit upon" and "Easily comprehensible"
- Users reflect that they feel "security" and "happy" to have such products, which they consider to be "convenient" and "would like to have them on the streets"
- Features such as a small attachment to place shopping bags upon were suggested

4) Deductions from User Testing
- The users are generally satisfied with the physical aspects of our product.
- The intended affects, Happiness via use of our product and Security via the usability of our product, are achieved

5) Conclusion from User Testing*
- Hence, it is likely that our product can be adopted for practical use, though a larger sample size should be tested, along with a more detailed test along other locations, in order to obtain a more concrete deduction
- More consideration should also go towards identifying the other affects that have been created, as our user tests only reflected a limited range of affects (users did not tend to provide additional responses to these questions)
- However, taking into consideration that our target group would not only like to rest their tired feet, but also their hands tired from carrying bags and other items, such features can possibly be incorporated into our product

Please feel free to edit the above information with proper justification by tomorrow night.
Following which, I would like to ask Otsuka-san to prepare the ppt; Katsuki-san to perhaps prepare a design of our product with a simple add-on for people to put their shopping bags on (as hato has suggested previously); and Kikuta-san to prepare a consolidated spreadsheet (.xls) regarding the users response on the survey results. Would this be possible? Hato is back in Thailand so let's give him a break this week :)

Thanks.

I also came back to here.

Then I went through the Powerpoint data.
Over all, I think the texts are a bit too much.. don't you think??
Instead of putting long sentences, just putting some summary words is better to explain to audience. Especially conclusion part needs to be easier to see at least. Otherwise you can just use bold or color on some key words to make them standing out.

In slide 7-8, pictures are overlapping on text so it's hard to see..
Kikuta-kun, are you thinking Otsuka-san will arrange them or you just mistook??

Then I wanna make a small change in "Design Improvement" part. I'll send it to Otsuka-san till tomorrow noon.

Thanks,

Here i attached arranged PPT. Changed slides are 11-13.(I made few changes and put one more slide.)

Otsuka-san, don't mind!! It was just my comments so you can just leave it if you are in such a hard schedule!

As Senri said, chairs should have something for putting stuff on. I think the space under chair can be a place for it. But if you think it should be more like something like a rack hanging out insted of using underneath, I have to think about how it can match to the chair keeping it's smart shape. So ideally I wanna slide this task to next time, final presentation, because we have 2 weeks to improve it after tomorrow presentation and it seems not so big component in whole concept.
To be honest, I'm not confident with solving it until tomorrow because i'm exhausted today...because of seminar trip.

Thanks,

Katsuki
