Dear All,

I drew the sketch of design proposal. Please have a look!

New points are below

1. Chair doesn't have to be filled box so I reduced the surfaces of it.
Then it became lighter and i found the possibility of using chairs in the other direction like option C.

2. i had been thinking about a pole because it actually didn't work as nothing but sign. As a just sign board, it was too big i thought.
But we need something stands out even if all chars are being used.
Hence new idea about that is to make table having bigger sign than chairs by using same way of making chairs. Additionally the set of table and chairs can be the place where people check the map and having conversation more comfortably.

That's to say, I recommend option C!
How do you think, guys??

>Senri
Good! Just one thing, We don't expect to put a roof on a chair even if they need it because it's not our focus so "Needs a roof"in question 6 is not necessary i think.

Thanks,

Katsuki

Senri-san,

Thank you for the schedule and data collection form.
Roughly speaking, it seems good.

I get back to our main issue.
umemuro-sensei pointed out that it is important to specify what to hear.

our considerations are......like...
1. how often chairs should be found.
2. whether chairs are comfortable for elder people. (hight, (shape, hardness...).)
3. what direction is best needed? (station, rest room,....)
4. whether direction by arrow is easily understandable.
5. whether maps are easy to read.
6. whether chairs are fit to the scene.
7. whether chairs are easily cleanable or, basicaly, needless to clean.

We can't get answers for 1 and 7 by the user test.
So, the questions need to cover 2 through 6. is it too many? shall we focus on some of them?
for each quiestion, we need to prepare either "real prototype" or "sketches."

Senri-san covered 2, 4, 5, and part of 6, 3. and affectiveness!!

what do you think? Mina-san?

And, the schdule is fine for me.

Katsuki-san,

Thank you for your depth thinking and sketch of your design.

In my opinion,
1. Some places have enough space for chairs and a desk, but there could be small spaces to put both of them. So, why don't we have
some patterns of chairs and desks?
We don't need poles everywhere, but a thin pole with chair like left one of B is provably effective for small spaces I think.
2. In addition, I like both A and C. C would fit on park or wide side walks. A would fit to building side.
(I am sorry, I don't contribute to selection of ideas. )
3. i agree with your idea that chairs don't need to be filled. My idea is that arrow on the chairs always indicate the train
station. At some place, chairs could be put like $B!~!!!~!!!~!! (Bor $B""!!""!!""!!!&!&!& (B

what do YOU think? Mina-san!

I checked the questionnaire and a bit changed japanese used related parts.

Questionnaire is good.

But have some questions.

question 5's answers

a) いい経験でうれしい b) 使いたいときもあるから、助かると思う

c) 要らないし、好きでない               d) 役に立つので、設置してほしい

e) その他:(

I think these answers  is too specialized question, so I think it shoud be changed.

and it applies to question 6

1)     不満なところはありますか?

a) いいえ b) デザインは好きではない c) 屋根がほしい

d) はい、その他:(

and I want Otsuka san to check this questionnaaire because she may have experienced a lot of quesionnaire answer time.

Thanks

Thanks Kikuta-san,
The expressions have been refined.

By the way, can I confirm the materials we prepare for user testing?

1. some real chair(s)
2. sketchs of chairs with arrows
3. something with map ---- real size sketch with a map or ??
something else?

I want to know above before we finalaize data collection sheet.
And I also want to know what is the main subject we focus on this user test.
Design(color, chape, etc.), function of chairs( chairs' function itself and function we added),
and something else?

we need feed back to our prototype. So I don't see question No.5 is necessary.
I suppose we rather ask what point do you like our prototype.

what do you think Mina-san?

Otsuka-san,

For user test, we need one chair which has a arrow sign on the front surface. (I'm going to prepare it) Its purposes are to check the proper height of chair and the visibility of sign.
And as u say, It's better to have the map to check if it's easy to understand and provide relief. So anyone can do it? The map better have some emphatic spots like station, toilet, post office, cafe, restaurant and so on. So someone needs to pick up them and plot on the map.

i think that's all enough for user test. How do you think, guys?

All,

i sent a sketch for final design few days ago. I need few more responses to proceed to real model. Any comment, Kikuta-san, Hato, Senri???
(I'm afraid my mails might go to spam folder sometime...)

Thanks,

Katsuki

Katsuki-san,

I see. Thank you for your explanation.

then, we will not test the artistic or impression of our chairs, right?
If we do, we have to prepare some sketches, I think.

regarding maps, I suppose we have to think further.
Maps are under copyright protection. Maps need maintenance of information.
It's easy to display maps from internet website.

Senri-san, do you have any idea?
Last week you mention about maps, which I couldn't see the whole thing then.
If you work on the idea you have then, I will be able to have more clear image.

Thanks.

hey all,
sorry for the late reply, i just got back to kanagawa today ^^|||
my thoughts are as follows:

1) we are proposing a SERIES of street furniture, hence, in effect all of these very good ideas can be part of our product. however, when considering the feasibility in terms of making a prototype, i am voting for C

2) in view of point 1, we will thus be making C our main topic of study for this project if everyone is agreeable with it

3) my concern, is however, that it will take up too much space on the streets and i cannot envision how it will beautify the streets

let's talk more on this when we meet tomorrow

hey all,

again, i'm very sorry for my late reply. i was away with my laboratory and i didn't have internet access for some time.

i think the importance of the user tests is to determine 2 things, mainly the usability of our product and whether it creates the desired affect. after all, this is a project on affects and hence the emphasis should be on that.

as for the map, i was thinking we could use google maps as an example for the time being. i believe google maps can be used for non-commercial purposes (our project is for study and scholastic purposes) so it should not have a copyright issue

let's talk more when we meet tomorrow.

Hi, Minasan,

I made a different version of quiestion no.5 and 6.
Please review this.

Regarding maps licence, I worried about actual production.
So, for our prototype it won't cause problem.

I have printed Jiyugaoka maps from Google and Yahoo.
Google map has small inconviniet point. Probably because
I am not so familiar with it.

see you later!
