Hi all! I hope you are all having a wonderful day wherever you are in the world. I am trying to use Illustrator and have not had any issues with it until today. When I open it, it doesn't fully load, there are no tools or anything. I have attached a screenshot to show what it looks like. When I try opening an existing file, it doesn't let me click on it or anything. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and the issue remains. I can still use photoshop fine. Please help!
The first thing I would suggest is resetting Preferences in Illustrator. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (macOS) as you launch Illustrator. Very often this trick can clean up some corrupted stuff. Did you install any important updates to system hardware such as the computer's graphics board? Even updates to the operating system can sometimes cause problems.
Also, which version of Illustrator are you using? Did this issue happen after running the latest update? Or are you using an older version of Illustrator? It might be easier to see what's going on if you tell us what version of Illustrator you're using as well as your computer's OS and graphics board details.
Hi Bobby, thank you so much for your reply! I have not recently installed any updates to the operating system. I am using the most up to date version of illustrator. I am using a mac, and tried the Option+Command+Shift but it did not work. I am not sure what to do, this is the app I use the most for work and I work remotely so no way of getting anyone else to look at it, but I need it for work tomorrow.
If resetting the Preferences file doesn't work I would try removing and reinstalling Illustrator. If that step doesn't work it might be necessary to do a clean removal and reinstall procedure using the Adobe CC Cleaner tool. The following Adobe web page provides details how to use the Cleaner tool and download links:
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing with Adobe Illustrator. When the tools and interface don't load properly, it can indeed be frustrating. Since you've already tried reinstalling Illustrator, here are a couple of additional steps you can try along with resetting preferences as suggested by Bobby:
Try Different Workspaces: Sometimes, workspace configurations can cause problems. You can try loading a different workspace by going to the "Window" menu and selecting a different workspace from the list. Also, try resetting them.
Yes - simplify polys! I find the deviation is too aggressive and the return isn't great. For example, I ran it on the 305 points and made the tolerance an inch and it only brought the count down to like 260 so meh.
Does anyone have any suggestions for when the DWG/DXF import results in curves that are no longer accurate? See screen grab below, in which the blue linework is the imported geometry from Illustrator, and the black linework is what it's supposed to be.
If I re-import the exported DWG directly back into illustrator it looks correct, so the issue is not with the exported DWG (and I've tried different combinations of export options in Illustrator). Vectorworks seems to be interpolating the bezier curves incorrectly upon import.
All of this is fancy math based interpolation, and it appears as if different methods are being used. Back when I used Rhino, I do not recall witnessing such deviation, but that was a while ago and memory fades. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to use another program that deals with nurbs and splines to test.
I'm thinking about purchasing the Buiness dropbox for our small company. We are all Mac based and use the Adobe Creative Cloud programs. Can I link images directly to the online dropbox storage through Indesign and illustrator?
You may be able to embed a web image into a document (assuming InDesign supports that, I have no idea), but to do so you'd have to create a Dropbox share link to each and every image you want to link to and then modify the share link so that it results in the raw image.
I suspect the method you're using is intended to link to files local to the document (same computer, network share accessible to the comptuer, external drive, etc.), and not meant for linking files from the web.

I will create an RGB document, create my RGB swatches (the brand colors I use are unsaturated pastel colors) and after working with the file for a while (dragging screenshots in, playing with text layout, etc...) My unsaturated pastel colors will randomly change to a hypersaturated brighter more vibrant color. It really destroys my productivity since I end up having to go back and adjust all colors before export. I never see the actual change occur, its almost as if it happens when I have the window hidden and am looking at something else. The only thing I can image that could be causing this is when I drag in screenshots since they are foreign to the document. I've attached screenshots of what the color starts as, and what it consistently changes to in all my documents.
I've got a user with exactly the same problem. Can't figure out what's happening to her as she's had the issue over two different computers. Completely reinstalling the entire Adobe suite seemed to help on her previous machine. Trying it today on her current machine and see if it helps.
I've been having the same issue. In Illustrator my colors are oversaturated. I have tried to reinstall the app twice and the problem persists. The app color profile matches the documents profile. So I have no idea whats causing this.
Also, when I copy an object from Illustrator and paste it on Photoshop, the color code of this object changes, even though I'm using the same color profile in both apps. My computer is a Macbook pro 13-inch 2017 with Two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Now, I have tried to change de GPU x CPU view and I got a closer looking color with the CPU On in Illustrator. But, even though the colors are pretty much alike, the RGB color code in Photoshop is completely different than the one in Illustrator.
I have turned on the profile warnings but as soon as I paste the orange rectangle, there are no warnings. Somehow the RGB color codes now match. The visual color is different though , much more saurated on Illustrator still.
This is what I did to get correct color: The monitor color profile has to be the same as the Photoshop and Illustrator color profiles (I've set them to sRGB). The soft proof profiles (have to be the same also - Choose View > Proof Setup to set them). And you have to restart your computer after making all these changes. That was it. Turning the color profile warnings in photoshop and illustrator will help managing color problems in the future.
I could be wrong, but I think this may be the same problem I've been experiencing for months. I've verified this with multiple co-workers, had them test this, and they've had the same problem without ever having noticed it: when you have an sRGB (or working CMYK doc) and place a screenshot Preview on Mac OS (the small thumbnail that appears in the bottom right corner when you make a screenshot), the document will change to either Display (RGB) or Untagged CMYK. Color profile is discarded immediately upon placing the screenshot preview within the Illustrator Document. This has caused much difficulty in the past, having to re-coordinate colors across multiple documents, etc. Even if this doesn't address the same issue as in this thread, PLEASE address this. I've already shown this to an Adobe employee who was sharing my screen, and they were able to see this is a repeatable problem, but unfortunately it wasn't addressed in this morning's new update 27.0. Thanks in advance for any help on this! (Note: Placing a screenshot through File > Place does not have this same problem, so of course there is a work-around, but most people are probably like me and have no idea this is even occurring until it is too late. Command-Z does not undo the profile change).
Whenever I go to export my Illustration to a .SVG file it groups every line together instead of separate for our Adobe Illustrator Technician. Is there a fix for my issue or even a better way to export the file?
The lines are grouped per part and all parts grouped together to maintain as much information in the exported file as possible. Doing this allows hot spotting to highlight the parts as well as callouts.
at my workplace we have an Adobe technician and a Technical Draftsmen (Me).What usually happens I make the Model and the call outs for the parts and then i hand it over to our adobe Technician to adjust the line weight and minor imperfections of the illustration, then she exports them for our manuals. When we were pitched the idea of using Illustrate they said that it would be compatible for Adobe, now that were running it it make her jobs 10x harder because when she imports it from the .SVG it imports the whole illustration as one and it wont un-group the lines. In order for it to work she has to click every single line individually. So that is why I was asking on how to Export it without it grouping every line together.
