This past week I flew in a private jet for the very first time which
ended up being the best flying experience of my life. Flying
commercial is for the birds after the flight I took to the Dominican
Republic. There are so many factors that make a private flight more
enjoyable than a commercial flight and if it were affordable I would
fly private every time. Of course the only downside to flying private
is the cost. It is expensive but if you can afford it, the flight is
that much more enjoyable.
As you know when flying commercial, it's so much of a hassle to get
through the airport. You have to be there an hour and a half early and
wait in lines while security pushes you through like cattle. You must
wait in line to drop off luggage, a line to get your ticket, and line
for security. The security has to check the luggage and you personally
to make sure you will not harm anyone on the plane as if you were
going to take down the plane you are actually flying on. There are so
many crazy people out there that it is necessary. That is another
reason it is slightly uncomforting to fly, you never know what could
happen. Look at 9/11 for an example, sure the chances are slim, but it
can happen. Because of these events you can't even take a water bottle
through the airport; you have to purchase it on the other side of
security. They will even take your shampoo if your bottle is several
ounces to big.
Now finally when and if you make it to the gate you are flying out of
you, hope that your plane is not delayed. Or worst case scenario if
you are getting a connecting flight, because you plane is delayed you
miss the connector. Do you think that flight will wait for you? The
answer is no. I was outside the door with 15 individuals while the
plane was right there in sight. The plane was being loaded with
luggage and they told us we couldn't get on because the door was
already closed. It sat there for another 15 minutes and took off
without us.
When you get on the plane, hopefully you will not be stuck in the
middle seat between people who hog the arm rests. You hope there is no
crying babies or a snorer to keep you from a pleasant nap during your
flight. When you arrive at the airport, you hope your bags make it or
you may miss a day of skiing due to the fact you winter gear did not
make it. Do you think they will reimburse you for the lift ticket you
already purchased? The answer is NO. They say sorry and hope you fly
with them again. All of these are experiences I have dealt with over
the years which make flying commercial not enjoyable.
Flying in a private jet is an amazing way to fly. I walked into the
very small Chester County Airport. We were there a little more than a
half hour before takeoff. We did not have to wait in a single line and
best of all no security check points. Not only could I take a bottle
of water with me but I brought a case of New Castle to enjoy on the
flight. A few gentlemen came and took our bags to place them on the
jet. As soon as the jet was fueled and loaded with luggage, we simply
walked out on the runway and took off. We did not have to wait for a
line of jets to take off. I have been on a commercial jet for an hour,
just waiting on the runway.
When taking off or at anytime during the flight you could have your
laptop on, cell phone, DVD player, any electronic you wanted to make
the flight more enjoyable. Your seat could also be reclined from take
off to landing. In flight you could get up, move around as desired and
the seats were ten times more comfortable. I did not have to share any
armrests and had an enormous amount of leg room. They had actual food
on the plane and drinks we could help ourselves to as well as a
microwave in case we wanted something hot. You could see the cockpit
and look out which was really neat while the pilots explained what he
was doing and what the instruments do. It was absolutely hands down
the safest I have ever felt on a jet.
When we landed we received our entire set of luggage which happens
100% of the time unless you left bags in the car. I was able to walk
off with the second half of my case so I could enjoy a few New Castles
at the resort. The passports cleared and we were on vacation and on
our way to paradise. Downsides to private flights are the costs that
are involved. First off it is very expensive to buy and maintain a
jet. Second it is very expensive for fuel, and the third thing to pay
for are the pilots. But however, it beats flying commercial. Flying
private jet was the best flying experience of my life and I hope to
have the opportunity to fly private again. It would be even better if
it were at my own expense.
