The Shooting Star State Trail is currently paved for about 29 miles, between LeRoy and Austin. It begins in the city of LeRoy, travels north through Lake Louise State Park, then west toward the communities of Taopi, Adams, and Rose Creek. There is a short break in the trail in Rose Creek between City Hall and Rose Creek Wayside Park. It picks up again in Rose Creek Wayside Park and travels west and north, primarily in state and county highway right-of-way, until it reaches the intersection of 28th Street NE and I-90. Just across the 28th Street bridge over I-90 is a paved path connecting to the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin. When complete, the trail will also connect with the community of Lyle (south of Austin) and the Wapsi-Great Western Trail in Iowa (south of Taopi).
Current and future portions of the trail will parallel Highway 56, also known as the Shooting Star Wildflower and Historic Route Scenic Byway. The native wildflowers and grasses are a highlight of this byway and trail. Most tallgrass prairie has been taken for agricultural use, but prairie remnants are places where you can find prairie smoke, rattlesnake master and wild indigo, sunflowers, asters, goldenrods, and blazing stars.
The return of Shooting Star
2018 was the 38th Anniversary of the legendary Shooting Star debut album released in 1980. Featuring the iconic hit songs written by Van McLain and Gary West; You've Got What I Need, Bring It On, Last Chance and more. Sadly though 2018 was also year of tremendous loss.
Through the years, Shooting Star endured their share of industry challenges and member changes. There were even times it seemed that the band could not continue forward. But founding member Van McClain was the constant rock that kept the fire burning.
Sadly, Van McLain passed away in March of 2018. The remaining members were determined to continue on to honor Van and keep his music alive. With the full support from Van's family SHOOTING STAR continues to shine today.
Jan. 19th, 2019 marked the return of Shooting Star to a sold out crowd at he Ameristar Star Pavilion in Kansas City, MO.

This official MN Scenic Byway is one of the state's first designated wildflower routes. The Minnesota Departments of Transportation and Natural Resources collaborate to manage wildflowers and native grasses along the route. The route passes through rich agricultural regions and small rural towns with historic buildings of national significance, bed and breakfasts, golf, swimming pools and city parks. Lake Louise State Park is located on the route. This is a 32 mile drive along Highway 56.

The song "Shooting Star" by Owl City is about being brave and finding your own light. The song encourages the listener to find strength and courage, even in the most challenging of situations, and to use that strength to shine brighter than a shooting star. The lyrics paint a picture of a person reaching up to the sky and finding the courage to be a light in difficult times. The song encourages the listener to be strong and to have faith in themselves no matter what they face. The chorus urges people to shine, no matter where they are, and to fill the darkness with a brilliant light. Ultimately, the song is about hope in the midst of a dark night.
The Cabaret's soft sofas invite you into their cozy embrace: here, glasses are never empty, and the stars shine especially bright. In the light of neon signs, a scene rises, but silence looms over it. Will the singer's charming voice break it?
In terms of design, the Cabaret has a lot going on. The room the player stands in is framed by the walls and ceiling, while the outer area is exotic with fountains, the stage itself, and starry light décor. The pneumatic mail system is still present on the left wall, and several buildings can be seen beyond the stage and lights.
"Shooting stars" and "falling stars" are both names that describe meteors -- streaks of light across the night sky caused by small bits of interplanetary rock and debris called meteoroids vaporizing high in Earth's upper atmosphere. Traveling at tens of thousands of miles an hour, meteoroids quickly ignite from the searing friction with the atmosphere, 30 to 80 miles above the ground. Almost all are destroyed in this process; the rare few that survive and hit the ground are known as meteorites.
When a meteor appears, it seems to "shoot" quickly across the sky, and its small size and intense brightness might make you think it is a star. If you're lucky enough to spot a meteorite (a meteor that makes it all the way to the ground), and see where it hits, it's easy to think you just saw a star "fall."
After you've escaped the city glow, find a dark, secluded spot where oncoming car headlights will not periodically ruin your sensitive night vision. Look for state or city parks or other safe, dark sites.
Once you have settled at your observing spot, lie back or position yourself so the horizon appears at the edge of your peripheral vision, with the stars and sky filling your field of view. Meteors will instantly grab your attention as they streak by.
This meteor shower has a reputation as a reliable producer of stunning shooting stars, and with the thin crescent moon setting at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, a dark, moonless sky will provide perfect viewing conditions!
The farther away from city lights you travel, the more meteors you can expect to see. If you live in the heart of a city, don't fret! You'll still be able to catch a shooting star or two. Under optimal viewing conditions, you can expect to see dozens of meteors per hour!
Behold a perfume that was influenced by Halley's comet, a celestial traveler with a proverbial long history, in the cosmic ballet of scents. As they travel through the heavens, Passionfruit and Cassis meld together like the comet's airy tail. Peach and Raspberry shimmer like celestial gems, while Rose and Lemon erupt like stardust. Similar to cosmic flora, floral and green sounds dance to a celestial rhythm. Vanilla and Musk recall the comet's enigmatic center, while Cinnamon fires the senses like a celestial collision. Amber and Woody Notes represent the comet's ascent through space and its fiery magnificence, respectively. This scent is a cosmic masterpiece in a bottle that captures the essence of Halley's comet.
As was the case in 2022, participants of varying ages and ability levels gathered at the Dealy Field basketball courts this summer on Wednesday evenings to practice their dribbling, passing and shooting skills.
After five weeks of making happy memories and enjoying plenty of camaraderie, on Aug. 2 each player who participated in the Shooting Stars clinic went home with an Olympic-style gold medal, which served as a badge of honor for each player and a reminder that each one of them is a star.
"I walked around and started knocking on doors in the neighborhood to see if there were any kids who could come out and play," Verlin said. "After having no luck and coming to about the 12th house, Van McLain answered the door, and I asked him if he would play with me. He said, 'Yes.' And we quickly became best friends."
"He was also a songwriter, which we had not known before," Verlin said. "Soon, he and Van started writing songs together and within four years, we were back in London and signed to an eight-album contract with Virgin Records."
"The story of Shooting Star is one that has its tragedies, but it is the story of our lives," Verlin said. "We started this wild adventure when we were just children, and it is a unique journey when compared to that of many people."
Once evening falls Sunday, expect to see a meteor, or a "shooting star," streaking across the sky every few minutes. The meteor shower will peak overnight into Monday, with 70 meteors visible each hour, according to the Royal Astronomical Society.
