I installed ubuntu on my new asus zenbook3 ux390. Nearly everything works fine except the volume controls don't work. The volume is either on or off. I can adjust volume in specific apps or websites (like youtube) successfully, but the internal volume control either wants to be muted or at 100%.
Hello, just installed bspwm and it works just fine. However, one thing I cannot get to work is the volume control keys. Every other multimedia key registers when I check with xev, ie XF86AudioPlay. When I press the volume control keys xev shows me FocusIn event, and not a keysym. The volume keys worked just fine in XFCE. Any tips?
Just installed, found this product has no option to control volume at camera and no way to disarm siren. When used in residential setting (suburban ), the volume on camera is to loud and conversation can be heard plainly by adjacent neighbors. I am also afraid if activating the siren (110 db) accidently, since it plainly available on multiple screens, I would put the whole neighborhood in panic.
Hi there, @timqsr! The siren on your Floodlight Camera Wired Pro will play at maximum volume once triggered in the Ring app. If you are worried about accidentally activating the siren, when you do press the siren toggle in the Ring app, there will be a pop up window asking you to confirm this action. When enabling the siren, it will sound for 30 seconds before automatically turning off, or you may toggle it off as well. I hope this helps!
I appreciate you passing along my siren volume concerns for further review. If I could either minimize the siren volume or disarm/disable siren completely, I would be entirely satisfied with the product.
In general settings, I have slides the volume control to the lowest, but the speaker is still very loud and unchanged. I am afraid the loud voice of now you are being recorded will disturb neighbors walking by.
Why the device control does not work?
What other things I need to try?
Thanks!
Just want to chime in that having the exact same problem. Resetting daily to have volume control is not a viable option. Pretty annoyed that a product working perfectly now has an issue that prevents any use at all.
Sonos has taken a major step back, by users not being able to control volume on app using iPhones.
YES! I regret buying into their eco-systems
Sonos also failed to notify customers of "THIS MAJOR CHANGE" Shame on you!!
You should advise future buyer of this "MAJOR CHANGE! Post it on your home page? Of course not, the suckers will find out later.
I expected better from a company with great speakers & sound!
There are running discussions about this in other threads in this Community. You can follow these discussions (rants). If you want to blame SONOS, the original misstep by SONOS occurred years ago when SONOS developed the lock screen Volume control hack. Yes, it was a very popular hack. Recently, Apple decided to get tough and not allow this sort of hack -- forcing SONOS to remove the hack.
Note that there are a few music service players (Apps) that can play music through SONOS. Because these are iPhone/iPad music player Apps, they can control the SONOS Volume. The SONOS controller is not a music player App, it is simply a remote control for the SONOS system. The SONOS players directly fetch music from the source. Once music play is started, you could actually uninstall the SONOS controller and music will continue. For many of us, this is the main reason we use SONOS.
The lock screen and hard volume button functions on the iOS Sonos app were a hack. The Sonos app played a silent audio file in the background to fool iOS into seeing the app as a media player, not a controller. It was then able to hijack the input from those controls to control Sonos devices. Apple put the kibosh on the hack to enforce their rules about controlling 3rd party hardware.
That's because the YouTube music app is a media player, not a remote control. The difference is easy to see - Start a Playlist on the YouTube music app, then fully exit the app. The music stops. Now do the same on Sonos. The music keeps playing.
My ifi Zen DAC has excellent, well balanced sound, at all levels. from the really quiet ( though rarely used! ) to the rather loud.
Also, you must have a very long headphone cable if you need a remote to turn the volume up
But (he explained patiently) if you look at the original post, we have here an Audirvana user who has a need for it because of his system, the common problem of channel imbalance at low levels in some volume pots, and his desire to listen at low volume. So we can either help him or not. I choose to help.
@Jud
To use the headphones on the NEO will you always need to change to the variable volume control?
My question is because many devices when connecting the headphones already make this change automatically.
What do I need present in the panel in order for a volume control to install? Both alsamixer and pavucontrol will adjust the volume but I don't want to have to open a term just to adjust volume. I have tried a number of things I came across online but so far no volume control.
Volume Control
The volume mixer application is SndVol32.exe in 32-bit Windows and SndVol.exe in 64-bit Windows. It is located in C:\WINDOWS\System32 (in both 32- and 64-bit) and C:\WINDOWS\SysWow64 in 64-bit Windows.
Connect to a Network
In Windows 7 you can access the Network and Sharing center with the command control /name Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter. Here you can click Connect to a network. This may not be the approach you are looking for, but I have yet to find another way.
Windows Mobility Center
If this is a portable computer, you can also access both of these controls (and others) with Windows Mobility Center. It's in Control Panel or you can access it with Win+X. Supposedly this article describes how to enable Windows Mobility Center for computers that are not laptops. It involves a registry change that I have not tested.
UPDATE #1: the issue (i.e. no volume control) still persists, even after disabling SIP (as shown here -installing-3rd-party-kexts-el-capitan-sierra-high-sierra-mojave-catalina.268964/page-16), which bypasses the signature check. So, there must be another issue, possibly in the driver?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires wireless phones and wireline telephones to be compatible with (do not cause interference with) hearing aids, and requires wireline telephones to provide sufficient volume. Without these hearing aid compatibility (HAC) rules, if someone with a hearing aid were to pick up a telephone or cell phone to make a call, they could experience substantial unwanted interference (e.g., noise), or they may not receive sufficient volume. When certified under the HAC rules:
Ever since the newest update all the volume controls through the in-app remote have disappeared. It used to be handy to lower the volume on my kids TV from the other room but now the volume buttons are just gone and I am not sure how to bring them back.
On the new black remote there is a bar across the top with like 2 small horizontal lines. Click the lines and it will bring up a fuller remote control which includes vol control
Took me over an hour to realise this by frustratingly just tapping the screen
Very unclear app change !

Thank you and the guy who mentioned the volume button from phone. There was no feedback from my phone to tell me that it worked(sound or volume adjusting image) so I had not realized it worked.
Most WM users will just hotkey volume control, and config their status bar to show current volume, this imho is the best solution as you are satisfying your needs without any external dependencies. If you are using a WM you likely want a more minimal setup anyway, imho there really is no reason to click on the status bar.
We are having issues since deploying Microsoft Teams where the master volume control doesn't change the volume in Microsoft Teams calls or meetings. The volume seems to be at 100% with no way to change it. The master volume works for everything else. Has anyone seen this issue? We have MCS non-persistent random pool of Win 10 1903 VDA's at version 1912.0.1000 LTSR. When connecting to the VDA using RDP we are able to adjust the volume in Teams no problem.
