Dear Colleague,

Greetings!

As you may already know, our organization, the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP), has a new set of officers who had just taken their oath of office in the last week of January. Immediately thereafter, the Board conducted its first meeting.

One of the pressing matters discussed during the first board meeting was the dwindling resources of our organization.  To generate much needed funds that will support its day-to-day affairs, it was agreed that we have to step up on the collection of our annual dues.  It was also decided that, since there are many who have not been current with the payment of their annual dues, the delinquent member or associate shall be restored to a status of good standing subject to the following modes of payment:

  • For those with  arrears of 3 years and beyond . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Php 2,500.00
  • For those with arrears of 2 years . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Php 2,000.00
  • Payment should be made within three months from the date of issuance of this notice.

It is in this light that the Board is sending you this letter of appeal for you to update your dues at the earliest time possible.  In return, we in the Board will deliver a more involved and responsive leadership.

We shall be informing you of current matters involving our organization and profession through our new website that is being formatted.

Thank you for your favorable response.

Very truly yours,

         (signed)

ATTY. LINDA L. MALENAB-HORNILLA

Thank you for the notice.
How do we best determine our arrears in years? Do we call or email or personally visit or text the PIEP secretariat? Or will there be a list available online?

Thanks again.

Hi Linda,

I already have settled my couple of years unpaid dues last year which amounted to much more than what is now being offerred.  Should have paid now and I could avail of the hefty discount, hehehe.  Anyway, please do sent us timely (yearly, semi-annual) notices that we can update our payments.  With so many memberships in other organizations and hundreds of bills to pay--no wonder, we will sometimes tend to forget our PIEP dues.

My suggestion for the new website (if you and our board is still open to suggestions) are the following:

A. to help us maintain our good standing status
1.  a members account page, where we can log-on to check our account/standing.  Your password will allow you to view your account only and not of others.  I say account (membership dues, registration fees, contribution, donation, pledges, and other money matters) and standing (PIEP-sanctioned seminars, trainings, conferences, forums attended with notification that this and that event will count as your compliance to 'members of good standing' requirement).
2.  list (with details) of conferences, trainings, seminars, forums, ACTIVITIES that PIEP-National and the PIEP-chapters will be conducting. Most of us are very mobile these days- and it will be an opportunity for us to attend/participate in a local chapter  event if by chance we are at the vicinity. Hopefully, a local event should count as one of the 'compliance to members of good standing requirement'.  I still do not understand this requirement for us to travel to Imperial Manila to earn such compliance!!!

B. Discussion forums break/separated into specific topics.  That is, you only have to click a certain link to 'urban envi matters' if you want issues on this agenda, or specific topics like sustainable and green building design link.  We can also have a governance/policy page where-in we can view sample 'best practices' environmental ordinances and discuss the merits/demerits of this LGU policy/program/legislations.... AND, we will just post a notice that today is the b-day of EnP so and so and a general PIEP greeting to that person. Its up to our individual selves to send a personal note---or we will just continue to have the 'thread of greetings' thus we need to have another link for this....  the selection of topics should not be rigid, but a member could start a new topic/subject that is not in the current list of discussion forum

We are interested in our members concerns/insights and we highly value their comments and inputs, thus, we should actively solicit their participation in this various discussion forums.  Thus, it would be a challenge to design and manage this forum/discussion site.

C. A site where we can post notices for 'job-hiring', call for consultants in a certain projects, or an offer for services (to market your firm, individual expertise), etc.

D. Links to green architectural firms, green building materials, sustainable/organic farming, sustainable land use planning, environmental planning resources, etc.

E. 24-hour members assistance area (to be define!)

Best regards!

Bimbo M.
