how did u get this ? sure its safe?

Sure it's safe!

I promise you won't get any nasty diseases from it! hehehe!

But seriously it works fine, the program relies on the .dat file to count how many times you have changed regions.

So when you delete the .dat file it just re-sets itself creates a new .dat file and starts counting again. Pretty simple really.

They mostly relied on the fact that this file was so well hidden that no one would be able to find it, and therefore delete it.

What I've done is actually created a desktop shortcut so I don't have to go searching again!

If you want a truly region free blu-ray player, give it a try!

May be you can reset Power DVD but how about the lock on the hardware?

I don't have blue-ray player but DVD drive use to be like that they have also hardware lock.

No bluray PC Drive is firmware region locked. The bluray spec calls for all region coding to be handled in the software of the host machine. So yes this "hack" will work forever without impacting on your drive.

Also this hack was posted here awhile ago by the resident pioneer rep which i thought was rather amusing.

ah yeah.. thats the DVD side of it.. the drives arent locked for bluray but remain so for DVD.. You can still continue to change bluray regions as often as you like..

Sorry forgot about the DVD side.. ive given up playing them as i hate the quality after getting used to 1080p content now :P

Hi, so I found this post because I have a laptop with Windows xp and a cyberlink power dvd player that I have used up all my region switchings on. I moved to europe and really want to play local dvd's here. I tried searching for the BRF .dat file but couldnt find anything. I dont know if I have Blue Ray so maybe that is it. I am a bit of a novice with computers but hopefully something can be done for me? Thanks for the help!

The fix wont help you with your DVD problem. As detailed earlier the DVD region changes are locked into the firmware of the DVD drive whereas the bluray region changes are handled only by the software. Even if the drive is a bluray one it will still become locked for DVD's once the region has changed 5 times. It can still be changed for bluray though with the above file deletion or with anydvdHD.
