Maya was originally an animation product based on code from The Advanced Visualizer by Wavefront Technologies, Thomson Digital Image (TDI) Explore, PowerAnimator by Alias, and Alias Sketch!. The IRIX-based projects were combined and animation features were added; the project codename was Maya.[7] Walt Disney Feature Animation collaborated closely with Maya's development during its production of Dinosaur.[8] Disney requested that the user interface of the application be customizable to allow for a personalized workflow. This was a particular influence in the open architecture of Maya, and partly responsible for its popularity in the animation industry.
In the early days of development Maya started with Tcl as the scripting language, in order to leverage its similarity to a Unix shell language, but after the merger with Wavefront it was replaced with Maya Embedded Language (MEL). Sophia, the scripting language in Wavefront's Dynamation, was chosen as the basis of MEL.[10]
In 2005, while working for AliasWavefront, Jos Stam shared an Academy Award for Technical Achievement with Edwin Catmull and Tony DeRose for their invention and application of subdivision surfaces.[18]
@BenBisares is spot on! A simple uninstall with the uninstall utility or app removed will not remove older iterations. You'll want to perform a clean uninstall whenever you are removing Maya from a machine, linked below.
This might sound absurdly elementary, but I just want to make sure I do everything right and in the right order; I've recently been testing a trial version of Maya 2018 and after having become acclimated to how different it is from the previous versions, I will be replacing Maya 2015 w/ 2018, so what are the correct steps to take with this? Just uninstall Maya 2015, and then once my trial for 2018 expires, I just subscribe to it?
For your kind information, all subscriptions come with current release and three versions back - means when you subscribe to Maya 2018, you can also down load 2017, 2016 and 2015 from your Autodesk Account.
For more details on how to connect Maya to Unreal, see Connecting Unreal Engine 4 to Maya with Live Link or How to use Unreal Live Link for Autodesk Maya plug-in. To learn more about the plug-in features, see the videos on the Maya Learning channel.
I've installed V2 of the plugin (with maya and unreal fully closed, on windows 10 pro), then Maya 2022 still says "update available" on the plugin. It links again to download it. What is the solution? Do I have to change something inside Plug-in Manager?
I like the new update with maya livelink knowing if it's Zup or Yup but there's a bug I encountered that I see other people also seeing
=935
if I link a root bone, and direct control the rootbone, or attribute from maya, it transfers over the values live to unreal5. if I control the attribute or bone from another control. unreal5 only updates if i scrub the maya timeline. the same issue is visible in this youtube video i found for maya live link and unreal 5.
Ideally I'd like to see the skeleton update when i move a control
Is there a way to determine the version of a Maya Binary file without loading the file into Maya?
For example, if the Binary file was saved with a newer version of Maya, then Maya will not load the Binary file at all, thus you can't use the fileInfo command to extract the version.
I am looking for a way to determine if a Binary File was created with a newer version of Maya without trying to open/import it.
Thanks!
