Bill,
Many thanks for the last update!
(BTW - A reasonable question is, why not just refer builders to the Tangentsoft pages?
The reason is that new kit builders are in a hurry, and get lost there in their hurry. Without the Quick Install instructions, I get a lost kit builder once a week on average... so that is the reason. Note that I implore on builders to visit and peruse the Tangentsoft pages repeatedly on the Building Instructions page!)
I have two problems to report:
Minor:
when installing on a single-core Pi, the build script tells you it is making the ILS version, but it actually, correctly, makes the NLS version.
Slightly less minor:
when I went through the install process on a Raspberry Pi Zero v1.3 (not Zero 2!) everything goes fine, but the pidp8i service does not start up at power-on. You have to start it manually. The only solution so far is to add a 25 second wait in the pidp8i.service script. This is only on this slowest of Pi's, not on any other. See the link above for details. I've spent a day investigating, and I suspect that on the slowest of Pis, the GPIO is not yet ready to be used when the script starts to read the switches at startup time. But I've failed to locate the exact issue/solution. An exact log of what I tried is available for anyone who wants to dig in to this! (attached, but not intended to offload the work to anyone, I will keep digging myself)
Thank you to Bill, and all!
Kind regards,
Oscar.
