Hi all,

I'm not a huge kit builder so I didn't really think I would have much to contribute here ... but maybe.

It seems like very few people used the Model 2 B.  I figured I would buy the latest and greatest, why not?

I had a little trouble with the fit.  The WiFi nub which seemed to fit fine for other people required carving a bit out of the side of the case because of the size of the 2B.  You can also see I chose to route the power out of the top; in retrospect, I should have just gone for a big hole in the back (because the connector needs to fit through) but it's all right.

I hoped one of those big 10,000 mAh batteries (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AANQLRI?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0) would drive it, but no luck.  I think the Pi boots, but the LEDs are very dim.

To echo everyone, thanks to Oscar for this fun kit!  Also his help debugging when I put the chip in backwards (but managed after two hours of unsoldering to fix it!).

Also thanks to Steve Gibson at SecurityNow podcast for mentioning the kit.

The PDP-8 was the first electronic computer I ever programmed (luckily in grade school - our school district had one donated from DEC) - probably spent four years programming it in grade school and high school, so this has huge nostalgia value for me.  (The first computer was a DigiComp-1.)

Pictures attached.

tl;dr:  10,000 mAh battery works fine.

Battery update:  apparently what happened when I tried a 10,000 mAh battery is I saw some slight glowing of the LEDs and panicked that something horrible was happening.  Later I noticed it always does that when it boots!  So I left the battery going for longer so it could finish starting up SimH and PiDP-8 and it works fine.

Just so you know - the faint glow of LEDs you describe is the ghosting effect. It is gone with the software update of December.

How many hours do you get with the 10,000 mAh, by the way?

Kind regards,

Oscar.

We've been running it for several hours and the battery indicator (which is only 3 bars of resolution, but I have seen it move when charging a phone) ... hasn't moved.
