Hello guys!

I configured the Raspberry Pi 4b, the latest version of the Raspberry OS (Debian) updated and working correctly.

I don't have an HDMI monitor so all my access is via ssh.

I installed the simulator strictly following the instructions at https://obsolescence.wixsite.com/obsolescence/copy-of-pidp-8-troubleshooting

I preferred the second mode because I plan to use Raspberry as a small home server as well.

But when I try to see the simulation using the following command:

screen -r -d pidp8i

The screen is stopped with this text:

PDP-8 simulator V4.0-0 Current        git commit id: 4e0450cf
PiDP-8/I pkg:vUNKNOWN [pi4b] [ils] [stdpcb] [gpio] [rt]Loading OS/8 from the RK05 cartridge disk...

I can't type DIR or any command, the screen's shortcut keys work so I can return to bash.

I haven't assembled the machine yet, I'm testing the simulator first as indicated in the manual.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks!

Cesar

Updating

I redid the installation using option 2b: "Full install of the pidp8i software from the Fossil repository" and it worked, I can access the simulator, type commands, etc.
So there is something that in my scenario fails with option 2 and works with 2b, but I'm already happy that it is working. :D And BASIC is also working :D

if you have useful tips for this start let me know. Now I'm going to assemble the hardware!

Those instructions are currently quite outdated. Even assuming the problems get fixed quickly, the project's top-level README.md file is a better guide.

it worked, I can access the simulator, type commands, etc.

I'm glad you worked it out, though it's not clear what went wrong or how you actually fixed it.

Your posted symptoms suggest that you tried building from a tarball, and that the build didn't complete properly. Without knowing exactly what you did, that's as far as I can guess with any confidence.

Thanks for the tip, I got to see this text but I didn't know it was more updated.

Yes, I first tried using tarball, there were no errors during the process but i don't remember the system asking for a password. When I did it via fossil everything worked and the system asked for the root password to install the services, I suspect that was what was missing, but I don't know for sure.

Thank you for your help!
