I'ved used the Raspberry Pi Imager v2.0.0 to put the .XZ image on to a 128GB SD card. The system boot's and doesn't start anything just sits at a login.. I've tried pidp8i / edisonDeCastro1968! to log in but not know.

I'm sure I'm missing something stupid.

Thanks,
Jon

The pre-built image does NOT come up running the simulator and the NO lights blinking.   I can log in when I type the PW correctly!
It's not configured correctly, $ pidp8i is not reconized.
I download the .IMG file on windows and flashed it onto the SD card using RasberryPI imager and Use Customer.  The board is a Pi 5.     I'm still doing something stupid here.

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Sorry that you were inconvenienced by stuff not working for you.  Let's see if we can figure out what's gone wrong.

First, let's confirm you've got a good copy.  What do you get when you run md5sum over your file? Here's what I get:

Mac-mini:Downloads wdc$ md5sum pidp8i-2026-04-15-trixie.img.xz
2d9d018dcc99a630fce7741aee5d3260  pidp8i-2026-04-15-trixie.img.xz

Next, what hardware are you running?

Can you also provide the output of:

systemctl --user status pidp8i

That is the service that should bring up pidp8i in all it's glorious blinking lights.

Let's also confirm that the needed services got installed:

ls /etc/systemd/services

Armed with this additional information, I can help.

-Bill

Hi,  I got a new PI4 and it all worked...   pidp8i-test validated all the LEDS and switches worked.   I don't have another PI5 to see if you single unit was bad or the pre-build failed.

This was the exact .img that failed on the PI5.

Happy Pidp-8 with a PI4

Thanks,
Jon
