I'm just starting on my PiDP-11 journey, so pleases forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question.  Know that I did do several searches and couldn't find anything that seemed to apply.

I'm just running my Pi standalone and I'm trying to figure out if it's actually working.  When I execute the 'pidp11.sh 2' command, I get:

IMG_2016.jpg

Is this normal?  I'm thinking there should be a menu or something?

Thanks for any help!

Steve

Those errors seem to be that the server and client for front panel
action have not been started.

What do you get if you do

service pidp11 status

?

So on Raspian, there is no 'service' it's systemctl, and I get:

pdp11stat.PNG

So it's clearly not starting client11 or server11.

Looking at /etc/init.d/pidp11 on my system, I have basically that
do_start() will end up running /opt/pidp11/bin/pidp11.sh.

And if I look in that file, I have:

.
.
.
# create a bootscript for simh in the /run ramdisk:
(echo cd /opt/pidp11/systems/$sel;
echo do boot.ini
) >/run/pidp11/tmpsimhcommand.txt
echo "*** Start client/server ***"
sudo ./server11 &
sleep 2
sudo ./client11 /run/pidp11/tmpsimhcommand.txt

So, I guess you could check that you have something similar, and if not,
figure out where that got lost.

And if you do have it, figure out why it isn't started.

Maybe e it's just because I'm running a fairly old version, but all I ever do is type:

./pdp.sh

No need for the /opt/pidp11/... stuff? You might try that and see if it works?

Uh. Well... pdp.sh is just a script that reattach you to screen, which
is supposedly already running the pidp11. That, however, got started by
/opt/pidp11/...

If that hadn't already been done, your pdp.sh would not give you
anything. The op is in that situation. The /opt/pidp11/... seems to not
have run as it should.

For some inexplicable reason the libreadline.so library had a link in /user/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf as follows:
    /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libreadline.s0.7 -> libreadline.so.8
Note that character after readline.s is a ZERO, not a lower-case 'o'.  No idea why that is in there.

I created a new link with the correct name:
    /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libreadline.so.7 -> /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libreadline.so.8

And client11 now seems to start correctly.

Weird.
