I know this isn't a PiDP-11 thing, but I thought I might get some SIMH advice.

I just tried booting up a RSTS/E system I hadn't run in years on my Windows laptop.  Everything worked as expected, until I went to log in.  I typed HELLO 1/2 and hit the return key.  A "Password:" prompt appeared, followed immediately by four iterations of "Invalid Entry - try again", then "Access denied".  It's as if I entered the wrong password five times in a row, even though I never got the chance to enter it even once.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Please include:

  1. The output SHOW VERSION when entered at a sim> prompt.
  2. The contents of the configuration file that the simulator was started with when you are seeing this.

Okay... When I said "hadn't run in years", It looks like "decades" might be more accurate.

SHOW VERSION returns "Invalid argument" and there is no associated config file -- I'm running SIMH v2.3b.  I spent the last half hour trying to locate a current windows PDP-11.EXE binary, with no luck. I see lots of pointers to "Simh Development Binaries" and the "Action" button, but when I click it, I only get a Actions overview page with no clickable links.

I'm guessing I need to get a more up-to-date version of the PDP-11 executable -- where might I find it?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK, none of the SIMH projects are releasing binaries, despite test builds being part of their CI process.

So you have to either build it yourself or rely on builds from others. I have a relatively recent Windows build (Open SIMH V4.1-0 Current git commit id: 2632755a) I can send you. Drop me a direct email f you need it.
