I have just finished building my PiDP11 and it passes all its tests.  I wanted to learn PDP11 assembler on RT11 but have an issue with the editor KED or KED.

I am using a Mac and using its terminal but I don't know how to map GOLD and other keys.  RT11 boots and seems to work fine so I think it’s just a terminal issue.

Any help thoughts and ideas welcome.

A quick solution maybe worth calling workaround:  use command  COPY TT:  FILE.MAC  use copy/paste at your Mac. IIRC end your text with CTRL-Z.

Use xterm on the Mac. It works reasonably well. keys F1, F2, F3, and F4 are mapped to the top row of the VT100 numeric keypad keys.
There was a long discussion about this on another thread, "RT11 KED editing with xterm"

However, as I'm rarely on my iMac, I keep a cheat-sheet handy with the key sequence equivalents for the essential functions. This way I can use KED from which ever system I happen to be using at any particular moment.

The most authentic expecience I've found (outside of a real VT100) is using a Linux screen console on an IBM compatable PC with a classic PS/2 101-key keyboard. Its keypad works just as KED expects.

Bob,

In addition to the thread, this is useful:

Kind regards,

Oscar.

Using Terminal with the Mac, do the following:
1. Set your terminal to VT100 in the Advanced tab under Profiles
2. Add the following two key re-mappings in the Keyboard tab:
    a. F5 ->  \033Ow    ;That translates to Esc+Ow
    b. F12 -> \033OM

Launch KED and you should be able to navigate text files with the cursor keys.  When you are ready to exit the editor, select F1 then F5 and you should see COMMAND: appear.  Now you can access commands like EXIT or QUIT.  The normal Return key won't work when at the COMMAND: prompt so make sure you use the re-mapped F12 key as your return key.

Thank you Eric.  I shall try your suggestions. Long term I will build a VT100 emulator.  Thinking maybe also an old BBC model B with Termulator ROM.
