All,

Apologies for not being online to much, the boring but annoying Brain Fog.
But:

Last month, we made the 1,000th PiDP-10! Which is great news for us, because with that, we've earned back the injection mold for the machine. So we have our projects budget back for new "Computer History Capsules". Yes, replicas, but Computer History Capsules sounds more ambitious.

Still lots to do for the Ten: I need to finish the Maintenance Panel add-on, I'd like to do a Type 340 display. But a PiDP-1 is done at the end of this month (I might have said that last month and the month before, but that is just being consistent). Juergen Mueller will bring out an Enigma replica next month as well, which we're making for him. And a respin of his gorgeous LGP-30 is currently waiting for a nice, 1950s style metal case. We've discovered how to do affordable metal parts now and we have the budget back :-)

Things are moving a bit more slowly than I'd like but with 1000 21st century PDP-10s in the world I feel it's been a good year. Thank you all so, so much!

Kind regards,

Oscar.

Congratulations! I recall that early on, you mentioned needing to reach at least 1,000 kits to break even on the sunk costs. I had my fingers crossed.

Thank you Oscar for making these great kits.  And all the people helping you.  The 10 is your best one so far.  I can't wait to see what comes out soon.

Congratulations, Oscar!  I never had any doubts that you would make the target and go far beyond!  And thank you for providing us all such enjoyable learning tools.  Just five years ago, I never would have imagined that I could have not just one but three PDP computers sitting right here in my study just sipping dribbles of power and waiting to teach me more obout computers and computing.

I'm glad there is so much interest in the project, it is a great replica

Replica??? What do you mean? Didn't you know that DEC copied the PiDP-10 and decided to rename it to PDP-10 to avoid trademark infringement? :)

More seriously, I agree with everyone here. Oscar, you and your collaborators have done a great job with each and every one of these systems.

Thanks,

Flavio Villanustre

I have to believe all trademarks of DEC have been abandoned or cancelled by now. Which means Oscar should be free to change the name of his company :-).

DEC rises again...

A couple of decades ago, I used to say that Computer Associates (CA) was the company where technology companies went to die. But over the past two decades HP proved to take that place quite effectively.

And Oscar's company taking over the DEC branding would be an interesting plot twist (and one that I would be happy to see).

Cool beans!  1000+ .  That is quite an accomplishment that there is enough interest out there.

Enjoying mine!  Can't wait to see the PDP-1.

Still work in progress on my Type 340 terminal (using a round 1024x1024 display). Just finished painting it.  Took awhile to get parts cut.  I may have another set of parts cut as the display front panel is bigger than it should be for the active display area... Oh well, good enough to begin testing with.

Would love to see and have a 340 display.
