Hi all,
The microSD on my Raspi-5 began failing yesterday. I was able to use the Raspi SD card copier to get more or less everything over to a new USB3 memory stick that booted correctly - but after a fresh install of pidp10 as per instructions, no Blinkenlights - neither when booting up with SW35 pushed on nor with manual pdpcontrol start.
After some more poking around, discovered that the culprit was a missing GLIBC_2.38 - a common problem thanks to recent Raspi OS upgrades to 13, trixie, even though mine was still solidly on Bookworm / 12. So off to download the binaries and dependencies and make a clean install.
The good news is that I discovered Oscar's note in the new software download, dated 20 December 2025, that explained the steps needed to do so properly (for hysterical raisins ... good one, Oscar!).
One minor comment: instead of following the last step of running the install.sh again to set the permissions properly for accessing the GPIO, the following worked
sudo chown root:root /opt/pidp10/bin/pidp10
sudo chmod +s /opt/pidp10/bin/pidp10
sudo chmod +s /opt/pidp10/bin/pdp10-ka
Or perhaps not? Everything seems to be working fine - except for the teletype disappearing after a few seconds of a partial display (yellow background, placeholder for the two buttons, no text - but sound!). It was working just fine before all of this, FWIW.
I can ping both the machine ip and localhost, and the main (yellow) ITS terminal under View works fine, FWIW.
The world has much bigger problems just now, but any suggestions for resolving the issue would be welcome as well.
Many thanks - charles
