So "GrandPa" PiDP1 is now making it's way down to the Falklands to catch up with the Younglings, 8,10, and 11, and all their pals, Gigatron, IMSAI, Izzy and Altair and the rest of the gang.

GrandPa PiDP1 will also be the first PiDP in the Falklands to be able to take advantage of Starlink connectivity right from gestation ;-)

It's going to be fun showing him off to incredulous youngsters whose experience of properly decent connectivity can be measured in months. And whose interface options start and end with wireless controllers steered by thumbs. Thank god for the SpaceWars controllers!

Prior to Nov 3rd 2025, legal connectivity was limited to, at absolute best, 5mbps. GrandPa, will hit over 450mbps routinely.

Interesting times.

Great stuff, Brian, thanks for sharing. That almost takes me back to living in the Channel Islands in the days of 56k dial-up and worrying about the Millenium Bug!

Milenium Bug. I was one of the team at Hewlett Packard in the UK at Bracknell. We had to test every single piece of software and have a written report about date behaviour and have bugs fixed.
Loved the extended screeching of 56k modems 🤣.

I used to be able to whistle at 28.8 and caused the modem to switch down.

Sent from my iPhone 15pm!
