When oscar and i met with mike hill on tuesday he had a tiny PDP-8 blinky program with him that we tested on the PiDP-8. he also wondered if it would work on the PDP-5 or what it would look like. well, he was lucky because i had most of a PDP-5 emulator lying around which i had written some 8 years ago but never really played with much.
so after an hour or so of hacking i had it integrated into the blincolnlights infrastructure and hooked it up to the PiDP-1, thereby spontaneously creating a sort of PiDP-5 :D

This morning i polished and reorganized the code a bit and pushed it to the blincolnlights repo, this here is its heart: https://github.com/aap/blincolnlights/blob/master/pdp5/pdp5.c

Don't take it too serious please. it was mostly an afternoon hack with a bit of polish afterwards.
and yet it would be really cool to have more stuff for a 5 and actually use this thing for something. unfortunately the PDP-5 software situation seems spotty. maindecs, PAL, ODT and so on would be really nice to have.

This is mike's poetry, start at 7776:
7772/ 7012
7773/ 2771
7774/ 5373
7775/ 7020
7776/ 4371

cheers, angelo

As someone who has the PDP-8 kit (my first but certainly not the only
fine kit) but so far has not found a downloadable, executable blinky
program to run, I'm interested in whether or not Oscar will be releasing
this mentioned bit of code and if so, where to find it?

If Oscar hasn't given it thought to release, here's my vote to please do
so!

Dale,

Sure! Mike left me the updated package of Collected Blinkies to share. It is a bit large, I will put it on a link on the web page in a few days. But here is the PDP-8 package.

Kind regards,

Oscar.

This is a bit of sillines, but as we did it anyway:

We'll add a PDP-5 Easter Egg mode in the PiDP-1.
And here is a video to demonstrate it, and the nice 4-instruction Blinkenlights pattern on the PDP-5 or PDP-1/5, pr PDP 5/1.

My 5 emulation was a bit broken still in that video. stop/continue actually did not work as expected. fixed now

<sigh> I'm doing it wrong (apparently). I tried running the BLINKY8.txt and then the BLINKY8.ptp on my PiDP8 by escaping out of the running system (<ctrl>e) and at the sim prompt typing first "do BLINKY8.txt" (after first copying it into a directory that SIM would see, and that failed with a REALCONS error. So I tried instead loading the paper tape with "load BLINKY8.ptp" but that too failed - it showed the code on my sim terminal screen instead of loading.

Again, not sure what I'm doing wrong.
