Global Trees HD is a complete overhaul of your sim's autogen tree textures. This stunning enhancement lends new immersion to your flight simulation experience! Years in the making, developer Scott Armstrong has used his eye for natural-looking vegetation to create beautifully realistic autogen trees that simply must be seen to be believed. The new textures are double the resolution of default trees, resulting in greater detail, and are derived from high-resolution photos of real trees for maximum realism. They have been hand-edited and color-matched to give you the top-quality flight sim experience that you have come to expect from Orbx. New optimized tree models reduce the burden on your system when flying over most dense-tree areas, with a negligible change in VAS compared to what you are experiencing now.

Low-level flying takes on a new sense of realism that truly must be seen to be believed; skimming over treetops, over forests and along rivers has never felt so real! Your favorite airports will see a major upgrade too, as the surrounding vegetation takes on a new lifelike appearance. You will also find that Global Trees HD breathes new life into our older products; with Global Trees HD you will find yourself visiting many of the old classics and seeing them in an amazing new light. Tubeliner pilots benefit too, as your approaches, departures, and taxiing will be greatly enhanced by more lifelike vegetation. The best part is that Global Trees HD is a worldwide texture upgrade, and doesn't require any other Orbx products! Whether you are new to flight simulation and upgrading your sim for the first time, or are a seasoned veteran with a wide variety of add-ons, Global Trees HD is designed for maximum compatibility and will upgrade all of your autogen trees, worldwide.

Note: The SpeedTree models ("Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation"), available optionally in P3Dv4, are entirely different from the standard cross-shaped "billboard" autogen trees. Global Trees HD does not alter SpeedTree models or textures. However, it is possible to have Global Trees HD installed and then use the "Dynamic 3D Autogen Vegetation" checkbox in the P3D control menu to switch between the two autogen tree systems as desired.

I linked my Orbx scenery into my X-Plane 12 install (some tips here) and it looks pretty great. One disappointment is that most of the trees will be the old static images instead of the new 3D animated ones. I decided to experiment to see if I could get the new trees to work and found a fairly simple way to do it:

Doing it this way you have to choose a season (summer used above). There may be a way to get seasonal trees with some library.txt magic but I haven't looked into that yet. I think they'd look weird without changing the ground texture though.

Also if you do just link in the same Orbx folders you are using for X-Plane 11, note these substitutions will break the trees in X-Plane 11! You shouldn't get any errors but the trees will look pretty crazy because XP11 doesn't know how to properly read the XP12 forest files. You can either do more complicated linking, or just create a new copy of the overlay folders. The overlays are much smaller than the main scenery folders.

Thank you very much for this tip. I will put it in my back pocket, but I'm a bit confused as, at first glance, it seems to me that XP12 is already generating these trees? I've tried Orbx TE South and Custom EGBB and LOWI and LOWS and the XP12 trees overlayed.

I removed the X-Plane 11 Orbx library, but that resulted in errors loading EGLC.
So, put it back, loaded it again including both libraries but I only could see green trees in November. Did I miss something?

You said you get errors when you delete the older orbx library, but I deleted that folder and dont get any scenery errors. I have both Orbx Oregon and Washington. I believe you should only use one Orbx library which wb the Xplane 12 version. Or keep the old one but than you miss out on the new trees. Other than to suggest to just disable that airport not sure whats causing it. Maybe check the Orbx forum. Sorry I cant be of more help. Maybe somebody else can chime in?

So I'm not sure how to get the 3D trees in the OrbX stuff. In XP12, are we supposed to have *only* the XP12 library, and not use the "Orbx_OrbxlibsXP" library at all? Even when I do this, I still have 2D trees everywhere. There don't seem to be much in the way of instructions about the XP12 OrbX library that I can find...

Edit: I had a look at some of the XP12 OrbX Library trees in Blender, and they are still cross section 2D objects as per XP11. So I guess the XP12 libraries are for better compatibility with XP12 or something, rather than supporting the new XP12 3D trees etc.

I must be missing out on something.
I purchased the ORBX LOWI yesterday and deleted the Asobo one in the content manager and restarted MSFS again.
Still there are a lot of trees between the runway and taxiways who shouldnt be there
I wonder how i can remove these or solve this problem

I imagine that the one that sits highest in the load heirarchy wins the day. As PilotP123 recommends, choose one and archive the other. Orbx Terra Flora (I have this on one sim setup) is as good a choice ar SAM global trees (tried this on another). I cannot decide which is best for my needs.

I then enabled AEC for LFPG in the configurator, reloaded FSX. No trees or buildings! And my frame rates were back 35-55, so not too bad. I then enabled AEC for LFPB. That fixed that airport also, no trees, no buildings. I also enabled AEC for KSEA, after which I switched FTX Central to North America, and applied. I reloaded FSX, checked KSEA, no trees but the airport elevation now does not look correct. Looks like its on a plateau, otherwise its ok. Then I switched FTX Central to FTX Global, and applied. Hybrid unchecked. Re loaded FSX at KSEA. Trees and buildings all over the airport. Darn.

It seems to me that FTX Global should be the default to go back to, to check things. I also checked out PAKT since I recently purchased that, FTX Central, in FTX Global, and Hybrid unchecked. That airport is now totally messed up. Plateaus all over, trees and aircraft in mid air. At least they are not on the runway!

Yeah, it's like some knob @ LM decided - "hey speed trees are a good idea", not realising the effort and artistry that would go into producing a great tree set and as it turns out their choice was not practical for any other developer either.

I only recently upgraded my trees to ORBx TerraFlora v2, and I was not disappointed. A significant improvement to the default trees in P3D. I checked out SpeedTrees once, but they were a very strange lime green colour when viewed from the air, and the tree density was not sufficient for my requirements. Frankly, I do not need them with TerraFlora v2 active.

that's correct too. Sorry but I'm out of ideas. If the object libraries plus textures are present then there's no reason for the trees not to display. What happens when you temporarily uncheck the four entries of a given Region in the scenery library menu, do the trees return?
