I have voice commands when running any time game using an external speaker
However when I play a move time game, all voice spoken positions cease.

Is this normal?
Stock software version 9.x

Hi Marc,

I seem to remember that on earlier v0.9x versions voice comments were stopped with less than a minute left on the clock, that might be the reason. What exact version are you using, is it v 0.9n ?

The reason I ask is that I can switch my Picochess version from either 0.9n, v2.01 or v3 quite easily, so I can test this on v0.9n.

Cheers,

Al.

Yes, that's a lower case 'L'. As Al mentioned, later versions removed that 'feature'.

I upgraded my DGT Pi to v0.9n, and spoken voice commands still cease to exist once selecting move instead of a time game.
I gathered now that this was fixed as of  1.0 release or v2.01 - both found here on the forum.

Not sure to what version I should upgrade best.
I saw the threads, but as an absolute beginner it's hard to determine what is the best fit.

I understood there is a v3 too, but in the included document is says it's not as optimal for a standalone DGT Pi setup due to the display.
And then there is the https://picochess.com/ versions through a paid subscription but latest versions dates back to Jan 2020 - no idea of their latest v0.9q is worth it.

Hi Marc,

Burn the v3 DGTPi Lite image onto the 8 GB card that you have, ensure power is disconnected from the DGTPi (and clock is shut off by the power button on the bottom). Insert the card in the DGTPi. Connect a speaker to the DGTPi using the 3.5 mm audio jack on the back of the DGTPi and connect your DGT board if using USB. Press the lever on the top of the clock so that it is down for Black. Plug in the DGTPi and wait. The initial boot expands the file system to fill the card then reboots itself. You'll know it is ready when you see Stockfish 14 on the clock display. To shutdown, e.g. when finished playing, arrange the chess pieces into the start position and momentarily replace the White King with the extra White Queen. Wait until the clock display shuts off, then wait a bit longer (I usually give it 5-10 seconds more) and disconnect power (unplug). Ensure extra White Queen is replaced by the White King to prevent a shutdown loop. If you instead want to reboot the Pi, momentarily replace the Black King with the extra Black Queen. Btw, standalone refers to using a Raspberry Pi alone (not wired to the DGT3000 clock as in the DGTPi).

Read the enclosed files in the archive for info on connecting to wifi, etc.

Ah okay, so v3 is perfectly viable for my DGT Pi.
Will give that a shot, thanks!

Has the Bluetooth issue some people experience using v3 been solved? I have a DGT Bluetooth board.
In the main thread I see success ad the end, and something about replacing folders but cannot seem to wrap my head around how it was solved.

Unfortunately I don't own a BT board so can't even test that. There is a German website you can check where Micha has produced images for various screen enclosures for standalone Raspberry Pi's where he mentions fixing the BT problem. The images should run on a DGTPi but would need some editing of the picochess.ini file to set picochess to DGTPi mode. You can always ask questions here and hopefully someone running a BT board can give you some help if it isn't working.

After upgrading I had the same Bluetooth issue like the other reports.
It worked once on the initial startup , but then doesn't connect on any subsequent attempts.

I fixed it based on info in the related threads here:

Adding the following line to /etc/rc.local file:
/bin/bluetoothctl connect 00:00:00:00:00:00 (my bluetooth mac address) before the line with the text "exit 0".

Keeps on working now.

Strange. I replied to this earlier directly from Gmail and it didn't show up. So, here it is again:

Thanks for sharing that, Marc. Hopefully it's smooth sailing now.

Thanks, enjoying v3 a lot! This truly transforms the DGT Pi into a dream chess computer.
The PicoTutor is worth it alone - and also so well implemented with the choice what you want on and off.

Simply stunning, big thanks to all involved!
