Muchas gracias

Thanks for your work, everyone.

I have a question: I have the picochess 4.2.0 image installed. It works very well, actually. I've seen that it includes older MAME-type engines, such as Novag's Superforte, but I don't know how to access them in the menus. When I go to the classic engines menu, only 4 or 5 appear, such as Mephisto Dallas, Amsterdam IV, and V, but the rest don't. I don't know if there's another way to access them.

Thank you very much.

Buenas noches.
Muchas gracias.

In folder /opt/picochess/engines there should be a folder mame_emulation. You'll have to get rom files for the chess computers you want to emulate, they don't come with picochess. Place the roms in folder mame_emulation/roms. There should also be a folder
aarch64 or x86_64. In this folder there should be a folder mame. You'll also find a file retro.ini. This is the file picochess uses to determine which engines are available. To show all engines, you'll have to replace it with file engines_ini/all_retro.ini, and name it retro.ini. Restart picochess, and now you should see a great number of emulated engines. If you've got the right roms, you can then play against the engines.

Also, roms need to be compatible with the MAME version in PicoChess.

Gracias
Thanks for the instructions. I'm not very good at using these files, but I'll try. For the Retro Engine module to be compatible, it must be compatible with the Picochess version of MAME. What version of MAME do you have installed so I can search for compatible ROMs? Thanks

You'll find version 0.279 in mame_emulation.

From the mame_emulation folder, to get the MAME version, type:

./mess -version

To verify a specific retro game, type:

./mess -verifyroms <driver_name>

e.g. ./mess -verifyroms amsterd

Or, to verify all the roms in your roms folder, use:

./mess -verifyroms
