Hi everyone,

I have updated all three 64-bit RPiOS Bookworm images. Here is a list of what has changed:

  • the issue with the menu structure reported by Andrea has been fixed. Thanks Dirk.
  • the problem with the Fidelity Elite Avant Garde 10/11 reported by Francois has been fixed.
  • the Italian translation update from Andrea has been incorporated. Thanks Andrea, even though I couldn't verify the Italian. :^)
  • MAME (mess) has been updated to the latest code (as of 24 Aug) supporting some new retro engines (Kasparov Blitz, Novag Emerald Classic plus, Fidelity Gambit Voice). Thanks to Dirk for providing the updated plugins and custom artwork.
  • a new opening book from Andrea has been added. Thanks for sharing, Andrea.
  • some MAME plugins have been fixed to correct the position setup function. Thanks again, Dirk.

Also, thanks to Franz, Berger, Hap, Guido, Luis and all others who work on the retro chess engines and supporting files that we incorporate into PicoChess.

As before, please read the documentation. The links (below) are unchanged.

Enjoy.

Randy

There's an issue with the new translate.py in the English System/E-Board menu. I think Andrea was teaching us some Italian. :^)

Here's a fix. I'll update the images and report back when done.

Let's try this again.

Found a few more issues. Here's an update.

By the way, in Linux I used the following command to list all of the English text sections:

grep -hnr -A4 "entxt = Dgt.DISPLAY_TEXT(" translate.py > output.txt

The output.txt file will then contain line numbers which you can use to locate the text in the translate.py file. Adjust as needed.

The images have been updated with the corrected translate.py file.

Randy, all, I'm so sorry! I manually edited the entire file, so I probably also modified a few english ones!

Thank you also for suggesting the command to check it!

Hi Henri,

I just tested using Option C in the 'v3.3 Bookworm Desktop Wine Readme.txt' using Raspberry Pi Imager v1.8.5 and my Pi5 (connected to HDMI monitor) booted as usual (into the Desktop). I'm about to test Option B using BalenaEtcher 1.18.11 to flash the card and connecting with the ethernet cable.

Did anything change in how you flash the image or your setup since the last time it worked? Did you try a different image (e.g. Desktop)? I've made no changes to the OS files, only changed some in the /opt/picochess folder.

Henri,

Option B is working for me as well. It doesn't ask for a login.

Hi Randy,

So sorry, please ignore! It was a one-time observation and I don't know what happened. Downloaded the latest revision of the Wine image and it was alright.
Already deleted the message after an hour or so, but you are just too damn quick with your service ;)
