One great benefit of the DGTPi vs. DGT3000 with separate RaspberryPi is that DGTPi is really *a lot* more responsive. The computer inside the DGTPi is wired directly to the clock instead of being connected through a cable.
Another benefit is that with DGTPi you'll have less stuff lying around on your table.
Greetings,
DJ
Besides that everyone needs to judge the prices for each setup on his own, what about flexibility in tweaking Picochess the way you like (i.e. UCI options and time controls, WLAN an security options)? How do updates work and how about major releases, wich so far, need more user actions as long as there is no image available?
Thanks for your comments
Uwe
I don't own a DGT clock as I can't 'plug' it into my Revelation II (my only DGT board) so my only connection is via Bluetooth from my RPi. So before the DGTpi came along I was stuck with my 'XL Clock like' display of my Rev II.
If I buy a DGTpi then at least I'd have the better display and functions of the DGT clock, but can I justify the extra expense when I already have a very good working system ?
Cheers,
Al.
Am I right in understanding that I could take a 0.77 image and have the Dgt Pi run straight from that?
I like the tidiness of the solution for sure.
Yes you are correct, it's exactly the same software .....
Cheers,
Al. (Off on a Cruise, back on the 9th of Nov)

Not proprietary software, just the same picochess code with published open source modifications to optimize its use without the audio cable.

Be interesting to see how the option of having twin clocks might develop, showing more data too.
Thanks for the video
