Hi Chessfriends!

Next beginner question - new engines.
Now PicoChess 3.0. runs fine.

I know that there are a lot of engines that users have compiled for PicoChess.
1. Is there a list of engines - available?
2. Is there something a description of the engines (some have adaptive strengh ...)

And the most important question:

3. How can I get them on my Raspberry? Which commands do I need?

Hi Kiko,
you are right - more than enough engines for a life - absolutely!
But I want to know HOW it goes! For example if I want „WASP 4.50“. How can I run it in PicoChess?

Something must be different about the Shannon engine in v3.0.  I can't get it to work at all.  For some of the script engines I've learned that they don't work with Move Time, but do work with other time controls.  Also, some of these engines require No Book.  Neither of those things seem to help Shannon though.  What am I missing?  Thanks very much.

Hi Darryl.

I suspect you are using higher levels for Shannon. Be prepared to wait a significant amount of time. Even on Level 3 it takes many minutes to find a Mate in 1 (Fool's Mate). If you want to learn more about PyTuroChamp, see this page. I think only Adapt uses Move Time while the others use search depth. You can see what each level adjusts by examining the .uci file.

Randy, it appears that that's what I was doing.  I set it to the lowest level and it plays within a few seconds.  Thanks very much, and thanks for that website link.
