Hi,

yesterday after updating to 0.9i (coming from 0.9h) I had some Trouble with "engine error". This ended up in reinstalling an Image. Reinstalling the engines with "sudo python3 ./build/engines.py" did not work (sorry cannot remember the Scripting Errors shown).

Is there a way to reset (delete) all engines and settings and reinstall afterwards?

Regards
Volker

Hi Volker,

sorry to hear y had problems.
build_<something> doesnt reinstall any<something>. It creates some cache files for usage nothing more. You need to call this, if y change files inside this <something> folder.
Basically, if y SELF install engines or books by HAND - its not needed with an image, or with simple cloning - see below.

Since y dont know the error messages, i would suggest y install picochess (alone) from scratch. For example with:
sudo su
cd /opt
mv picochess picochess.save
git clone https://github.com/jromang/picochess.git

then restart and if everything works, delete this saved folder with "sudo rm /opt/picochess.save"

Hi Volker,

Can you be more specific, what Engine are you having problems with & what Raspberry Pi are you using?

We already know that Rodent 3 doesn’t support the extra modes like Brain & Ponder etc, these will result in ‘Engine Err’ but work in Normal mode.

I’ve just tried all the Engines on my DGT Pi (RPi 3) and all Engines work ok, except Rodent 3 in Brain, Analysis, Kibitz, Observe, Ponder & Remote modes. It does work in Normal mode.

Cheers,

Al.

Hi,

the solution from Jürgen worked just fine. Now I can make a clean System without Messing with WLAN Settings any more (which was most of the work because I had to connect pi to an Monitor and put a keyboard to it).

The reason for the Trouble is not clear to me. I never did any changes to the engines - and always used stockfish. Unfortunatelly I was not able to create some log-files.

Regards

Volker
