Dear developers of picochess

First of all a big thank you to you all for the picochess project! It is so much fun to use a dgt board with a rasperry pi and with picochess!

I have one question: There are some personalities that are already pre-installed with the Rodent II engine (Anand, Fisher, etc.). Could you tell me the ELO strengths of these personalities?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!

By the way: picochess 0.79 does not work with a rasperry pi model 2 anymore. On the model 2 you cannot choose any engines and only Zurichess engine works. Thus I updated to a model 3 :-)

Best regards

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

PicoChess runs on all RPi's however the RPi model1 has an armv6 CPU so only Zurichess is available for that. The RPI Models 2 & 3 use the armv7 CPU where all 8 engines are available, so I suggest that your original model is a model 1.

As for the grades of Rodent II. It's generally rated around 2650, I ran a couple of tournaments recently using SCID Vs PC where in 1 the Capablanca personality came out top, but in another Grumpy came out on top.

I hope this helps....

Hi!
I am a Newby and using picochess on 0.82 version with an raspberry 3 with DGT board and DGT 3000 clock. First I want to thank all supporters for the whole work on the picochess project!
My question on the Rodent II engine is, how could I get the other personalities (master level, club-level etc.) running on the raspberry? Is there a specail trick how I could get them over the DGT 3000 clock menu or do I have to select them via command line? And coming back on the starting question, is there a ELO ranking from the different personalties?

Thx alot and kind regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

See this post which shows how to switch the personality files:

https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/picochess/ne1Un2QnrJA

I'm off out now, but I'll have a look on my return as I'm sure I have a document on some of the lower personality grades.

Cheers,

Al.

Hi Mark,

If you look here, some of the individual personalities within each group have ELO reprosensitve grades:

Thanks, this is quite promising. Will try rodent elo levels via picochess!

I see a lot of work went in simulating famous players as well - https://github.com/nescitus/Rodent_II/tree/master/personalities/famous

Cheers,

Al.

Hi,
better NOT look here:
https://github.com/nescitus/Rodent_II/tree/master/personalities (as said from Al)

instead look HERE:
https://github.com/jromang/picochess/tree/master/engines/rodent2

cause i updated nescitus files already to work on picochess :-)

Mark,

If you like, there's nothing to stop you merging all the personality files into one file called d-rodent.uci as I have done.
All the personalities are then selectable via the clock Engine & Level menus.

Hi Shiv,

Maybe, but it would be impossible for those who only use a Revelation II and no DGT clock, so can only select 8 levels via the Queen.
(That was my predicament before Santa got me a clock 😀)

Hi Al!
I tried to copy the presonalities like "master" to the uci. It works, but I could only copy one personality! All others are than gone. What is the Syntax to copy them all simultanously to the uci!
Kind regards Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm currently away but luckily I have a backup of my PicoChess files on my iPad.

Attached is the UCI file with all Personalities,

I'll explain how I did when I return home early next week.

Hi Mark,

I promised to give you the command I used to create the d-rodent.uci file, it was the 'sudo sed w' command followed by the new file name and the 6 files that are that are copied into the new file:

sudo sed wd-rodent.uci personality_club.uci personality_famous.uci personality_fun.uci personality_league.uci personality_masters.uci personality_school.uci

Hi Mark,

I could of used a wild card as there no other uci files in the Rodent2 directory.

sudo sed wd-rodent.uci *.uci

I'm also reliably informed I could have used cat too ....

Mark,

Check 3 replies earlier on March the 25th, I actually supplied a working d-rodent.uci file ...

All you need to do is replace this with the file you have in /opt/picochess/engines/armv7l

Cheers,

Al.

Try your Pi against your pc Simply put the usb cable to your PC and board and. the Clock Cable to the board from the pi and use the clock to get one side to move first.
