Hi all,

The files for a-stockf (SF16 classical) & StockfishNN16 (SF16-NNUE) can be downloaded from here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uk3viro5hub94yy/AABSKHGUF2wTMQVEw6PTh2YIa?dl=0

Included are the *.uci files, engines.ini.examples and the NNUE file for StockfishNN

Don’t forget to give the main binary execution rights if your adding these yourself:

chmod a+x a-stockf

chmod a+x StockfishNN

(You may need to use sudo, I don’t)

Cheers,

Al

Hi all,

I received an email from Marc with a very good point …

If you’re using one of Randy’s images or similar then the engines.ini example for StockfishNN should have this at the top:

[NNUE/StockfishNN]

My environment is different, whereby I have several different folders for each type but run a batch file to link them all to my armv7l folder therefore negating the need for the extra NNUE path.

Thanks Marc, and sorry for any confusion to those adding them yourselves.

Cheers,

Al

Hello Al,

does Stockfish 16 have the ability to automatically adjust skill levels?

Hi Wilhelm,

You note I preferred to change then .uci file to use UCI_ Elo to give us an idea of each levels strength rather than the ‘old’ not very helpful Skill levels of 0 to 20.

If I understand you correctly, my SF16 compiles are tuned for the RPi4, I’m pretty convinced that if you start it manually using a terminal by other ./a-stockfish or ./StockfishNN and type uci you will always see the lowest ELO value of 1320 but the highest value may not be 3190 on your machine, this part at least seems to auto adjust to the users configuration, possible overclock & type of Raspberry Pi being used.

I hope this helps …

Al

Hi Al,
my Elo is 1720 but I can easily win against the new Stockfish16 engine even at 1878 Elo: it made blunders here and there that an 1878 Elo player normally doesn't make.
Look very strange to me.
Maybe the problem is the a-stockf.uci file ? (I used the one you gave to us) or the compiling process.
Tomorrow I will give a try also to the new Stockfish16 NNUE engine.
Thank you.

Hi Luigi,

They are only approximations, built by the build engines function.

It gives a clue to the grade, much better than skill levels which were a lottery for grade.

Al.

I played Stockfish 1785 today (beat it on my first attempt) and it appeared to blunder when it didn't take my queen with a rook and later giving up the same rook to a pawn.
However, analysis by chess.com (sf16) showed each move as a thumbs up and credited neither of us with blunders for the entire match. (I might disagree).
Here's the video of me playing the SF 16 engine at 1785 using a DGT Pi with a Raspberry 4b and the chess.com move analysis is included as an inset in the video.
