Good day.  Can someone help clarify some of the instructions for getting started with PicoChess?

I have the following:
  • DGT Smartboard
  • DGT3000
  • RPi 3b+
  • PicoChess Lite image (PicoV3DGTPiLite.img)

I followed the instructions in standalone instructions.txt.  PicoWeb launches and detects my board.  I can play.  If I'd rather see moves displayed on the DGT3000 what do I need to do?

Hi Brian,

You can connect the DGT3000 clock to the board using the clock cable. The jack is on the side of the clock. Shutdown first.

Yes, I connect the DGT 3000but it doesn’t display moves.  I’ll connect it to the board first and try to restart the pi.

Does the clock need to be any special mode?

Mode 25 if I recall correctly. I haven't set it up that way in a while. If I get a chance I'll do a test.

I connected my DGT3000 (in mode 25) then my RPi and powered everything on.

Nothing on the DGT 3000.

Not sure what instructions I’m supposed to follow.

Brian, it should work without doing anything else. Perhaps a bad connection? Can you test using Fritz or Arena in Windows? Is it a newish clock? I think the older ones needed newer firmware. Can you test the cable with a multimeter?

The clock is probably 3-4 years old.  I’ve used it with a bluetooth DGT board in the past.

I just want to be clear about what needs to be commented out in the configuration files.  It will be some time before I can get a windows computer setup.

It's exactly what is stated in the standalone text file. This morning I used a fresh v3 Lite image, followed the instructions to edit picochess.ini and config.txt and disabled the 2 services related to the DGTPi, and with the clock set to Mode 25 I got the same display as the web server (but only 8 characters max). I could also use the clock buttons to access the menus and make changes.

I really appreciate you confirming.  I’ll double check my image and the steps I followed.  Otherwise it’s possibly the cable or clock.

Have a look at this thread:

It seems a similar issue as you have.

I’ve read the thread, but not sure I see a solution.

1) do I need to install a new firmware for my smart board?
2) do I need to disconnect my board from the pi and reconnect it?

I'm afraid I don't know the answers to your questions. Replugging won't hurt so you can try that. You would need to talk to DGT support for any firmware updates. I only have a regular USB board.

You can also check the picochess.log file to see if there are clock communication issues.
