Hi!  I am looking to build a raspberry pi 3b box that will run pico chess.  At this point I am trying to determine which hardware to purchase. I will need the following:
a) Raspberry pi 3b+ board
b) Case
c) Display board

It is not clear if the box will require buttons or not. From what I have read so far, it appears that the dgt board is used as buttons.

Does anyone recommend a good display board  and case?  I would like this to all fit together in a small box.

Please drop me a note
thanks

The display does not have any buttons. If the display is to act as a dgt3000, I thought that would mean that the display needs some buttons. Would something like this ink display work?
Maybe there is a pointer to the hardware requirements for the software somewhere?

Hi Kalias,

no hardware buttons are needed. The web interface shows the necessary buttons and you can use them via the touch screen.
I have used these two displays successfully with various Raspberry Pis:
Both show the buttons on the touch screen and can be controlled this way. Most of the functions can also be triggered via the DGT board.
I think the e-ink display will work for two reasons:
  • it does not seem to be able to act as the Raspberry Pi's main monitor (i.e. changes to the Picochess code may be necessary)
  • it does not offer touch capabilities which are required as explained above
