Hi all,

PicoChessWeb 3.3, Desktop image.

While working on the translations for the italian language, I had the chance of navigating the menu back and forth, and therefore came across a strange behaviour of the menu.

Here are the steps to replicate it. To avoid any confusion, let's assume the standard desktop image is loaded, and the "translate.py" file is the standard one.

Let's also setup PicoChessWeb with english language, so everyone can replicate it, for troubleshooting reasons.

1) start PCW
2) Go to "System" menu and confirm
3) Go to "Display" sub-menu and confirm
4) Go to "Capital letters" and confirm

at this stage you are proposed with the "Notation short" or "long".. which of course should not happen.

If now you go back one level and enter the sub-menu again, this time I'm proposed with the "Engine name on/off" options..

A similar thing happens with the "Ponder" sub-menu.

This erratic behaviour "fixes" by itself, if you actually do a selection (I mean you set a parameter). In that case, the menu starts to behave correctly. If you don't make a selection, but you go up and down in the "Display" sub-menu and in sub-sub-menus like "Ponder", "Notation", "Confirm msg" and so on, you'll see the issue.

Can someone try the above, and confirm it is an erratic behaviour of the menu system?

Thanks!

AG

PS: Sorry for bringing several things up. I've started spending quite some  more time on PCW than before, and and as such I'm likely to come across more issues than others. The intention of course is simply to participate myself to the improvement of a fantastic device, and I won't ever be enough grateful to those who have/are spending their own time and efforts on it!

Good find Andrea.

We probably screwed up the display menu structure when we introduced the new clock position set up feature.

I think I fixed the problem and will test with Randy who will  add this in his next images I think ...

Thanks

f someone wants to test before Randy has a chance to provide a new image with the menu fix, you can replace the file /opt/picochess/dgt/menu.py with the attached one.

Happy testing.

Hi Dirk, just downloaded and applied the patched file. As far as my tests are concerned, the new file solves the issue, confirmed.

Thanks!
