Dirk, will you be updating your Github site with v3?

Hi Randy,

actually I don’t know - I don’t have the time and I am no keen on doing this because it would meed additional effort (the correct image with all voices/mdeia files is just too big for a free account I think and if I would get ridd off some thiings I would have to edit corresponding ini files top make it work again.

Furthermore as I pointed out several times I don't think my „sledge hammer“ code is a good source for further development… (and that is really true - believe me)

On the other hand just for documenting the V3  features it could make sense (I started with the development almost 2 years ago as an absolutely beginner and today I would have implemented a lot of things completely different) .

We will see…

Understood, Dirk. It would be nice if your code was available somewhere if someone wants to continue enhancing PicoChess or even borrow from your ideas. I think Github only limits individual files to 100 MB.

Hi Randy,

although not totally happy with it I have now updated my personal GitHub repository for V3.

It is just for code reference and won't be a full featured V3 because of the githuib restrictions (only 25MB each file , only 100 files each folder), so mame, voices and media samples for my pgn_engine are missing and lots of manual installations steps would be ´necessary.

That's awesome, Dirk! Thanks for that. Now, if you need to make any alterations we can just grab the new file rather than downloading another image.

I guess I didn't look hard enough at the free account restrictions. I see that the max size is 500 MB for the repository. I don't think Sourceforge has any limits - maybe that's an option.

Dropbox is another option. Happy to create a public folder on my account for others to share (upload and download) images if that works.

Hi Shiv,

Thanks for the offer.

I already have a Forum link on my Dropbox, which is where the old v2 and now the new v3 images are.

Cheers,

Al.

Yeah, I don't think image storage is an issue. But for people who like to experiment rolling their own images from scratch or installing in a different OS, it's nice to have the source files separate from the OS. Just more convenient, that's all.

We can have an experimental subfolder for this purpose? Agree that its good to encourage experiments, as experiments have brought us to V3 Picochess :)
