New mame and engine updates?

Hi,

I like playing against chess robots like against the "chess turk" in Fritz 13 with the Turing chess engine made by chessbase.

Now with the new mame 0.59 we have a new chess robot (besides few others): The Novag Chess Advisory Robot (thanks to hap for the emulation and Franz for the plugin). Here is a screenshot with the nice robot hand added by Bryan Whitby. Bryan was so kind to send me the necessary files for the animated robot arm. Especially with active "emotion" mode (when the robot tries to distract the opponent by sound, light events and arm movements) this is really fun (at least for the first few times ;-)

So it would be cool if someone could provide a (32bit) executable for picochess again. I will then adapt Franz plugin for the newer mame version for picochess and provide the necessary artwork and plugin files (to Randy).

Futhermore do someone has already a lc0 0.30 version?

Any other updates for our most important engines are welcome as well (don't know if ct800 or wasp has updates which are not part of Randys image!?).

Hi Dirk,

I'll try to find some time to compile MAME this week. It might take some time filtering the sources to just the chess engines. Hopefully there aren't many new files.

Or has Dieter already done the hard work. 😁

Hi Randy,

That would be nice - if you can’t find the filter for just the chess engines just take all - more important would be to avoid the warning or in case of the robot advisory an error pop up which must be confirmed manually in standard mame each time (so we would have to attach a keyboard or via VNC - grrrrrr).

If Dieter has already a a new mame 0.259 version this would be welcome too!

Yes. I'll have to check the warning suppression code I used before. I agree the filtered size isn't all that important if you have the memory. Might be an issue for those with less than 1 GB where swapping might come into play. Not sure though. I'll do the full compile first and send you the file so you can use it for testing. Then I'll try reducing the size.

The Novag Chess Robot Advisory and the new king of all chess computers the „Chess King ET-6“ are running in PicoChess

Big thanks to…

• Franz (and his cool CBEmu project) for debugging(!!!) and fixing his last plugins for the new mame version so that we can finally use these machines in PicoChess 
• Randy for supplying a new „nonag“ mame 0.259 (and hap -from mamedev- for supporting the newly emulated machines
• Bryan Whitby for adding the nice graphic of the Novag robot arm 

(After some more testing I will provide the files for Randy so he could include it in one his next images…)
