Wondering if people on this group tried Stockfish at different skill levels and found the levels to be similar to (weaker) human players. Curious if the level handicaps work well.

Hello Shiv,
I have pico on the rikomagic up and running. Very impressing work. I am momentarely testing playing swtrength.
The levels to downgrade pico are not extensive documentated, Is there a kind of algorythm behind so you could calculate a ELO number at each level?>
The Blitzlevels are not documentated yet. The seem a couple of problems wth some levels. At some moment Pico freezes and will not move anymore. Position setup seems a little complicated. It wouldbe nice if you could give a command and  just put the pieces in a position and let the piece recognition let do the work.
In my opinion i would rather fine tunes the optiios till now and later make it more sophisticator. Perhaps we can play test matches on Ischach ( free ) the server where computerschach forum holds its games.
Greets and thnxs fore the great efforts till now.

Great, would appreciate any feedback on it.

There is no elo algorithm like the Ipad. I can port over that to picochess. The current algorithm is hard to explain without a code sample. However, the algorithm is stated as "Implementation of skill levels has been developed around an idea from Heinz van Saanen and is time control and CPU speed independent: you can set skill level at 4 and SF will play with the same strength both on a cell phone at 1’ per game or on a super quad-core machine at 120’+30” TC." in the Stockfish website.

The Blitzlevels are not documentated yet. The seem a couple of problems wth some levels. At some moment Pico freezes and will not move anymore. Position setup seems a little complicated. It wouldbe nice if you could give a command and  just put the pieces in a position and let the piece recognition let do the work.

If you notice a freeze please let me know which level and how to reproduce. You can sent a private email too if you like. I want to iron out any bugs.

On position setup, I will enable clock buttons to enter position setup mode for the next release.

In my opinion i would rather fine tunes the optiios till now and later make it more sophisticator.

I was trying to find out if the above algorithm by Heinz Van Saanen for skill levels is useful in practice. No plan on making it more sophisticated before understanding if it works well :)

Perhaps we can play test matches on Ischach ( free ) the server where computerschach forum holds its games.

More tests would be great if you have a chance!

Thanks, Shiv

Hello Shiv,
Glad to say that blitz levels work good. I reinstald pico and the freezing problems disappear.
I included the manual with the blitz levels so you can change the wiki. Go to start now with pos setup.

Thanks, I have updated the manual.

You can also sign up for a free github account at https://github.com/signup/free and edit the manual page by yourself (https://github.com/jromang/Stockfish/wiki/Manual).

Glad to hear that it worked after a reinstall, though I dont understand why it was freezing the first time. Any more tests/additions to the manual are greatly appreciated! Let me know if you got picochess to work on ICC or FICS. I would be curious to play against picochess myself on those servers!
