NIce reference, but I was looking for a date to reference it to.  Didn't see one, but I'm known to be blind- anyone got any ideas?

Um, yeah, once you find the link and take all the spaces out of it.

Works better as http://www.4shared.com/document/QQRR-x46/SMD_Codes_Catalog.html

But I did wonder what the site was going to be like when its advert offered "Free Trail Offer" for Russian Women ...

That catalog is out of date and on loads of sites. He must have been
talking about the Russian Women.

Enjoy what? All I saw was a lot of blank lines interspersed with partial
email headers. If there is something there you want other to see TRIM THE
POST so that it is obvious. There is no excuse for sending 10s of blank
lines.

Thanks, could come in VERY handy..

With SMD, I have always wondered why they don't just print the actual part
number using smaller digits - most stuff you're using a loupe or something
to examine it anyway. Surely printing an 8 digit code instead of a 3 digit
wouldn't be that much more difficult - even up to 20 digits in the most
extreme cases.
I think most people would prefer this to having an obscure code that's
visible with the naked eye, certainly I would - been driven to distraction
too many times trying to identify tiny parts. Maybe someone knows something
I don't though..

You'd need a very high resolution printer, and ink that doesn't spread
etc.

or a laser, most parts are laser etched rather than ink, which also
makes it harder to read.

Which is kind of what I'm getting at - lasers can etch stuff a few microns
wide, and we can fit 10,000 transistors into a few square mm, so surely we
could manage to write more than three letters on small SMD parts? Even with
inkjet, there is technology that can produce dots a few microns in diameter.

Cutting edge inkjet technology produces dots with minimum size of less than
one micron:
