The XTERRA Trail Run World Championship courses reward runners and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world with a quintessential Maine experience filled with roots and rocks, big climbs, vibrant colors, hero dirt, and views for miles around every switchback.

Located in Carrabassett Valley, Sugarloaf is one of the largest ski areas in the East during the snowy winters, but in the Fall, the bright white gives way to a cornucopia of colors connecting softwoods and hardwoods with mountain streams and natural bridges.

Over the years, the team at Sugarloaf in conjunction with the Carrabassett Region Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (CRNEMBA) and the town of Carrabassett Valley have developed a truly world-class network that is maintained and improved year-round and has lured big events like the mountain biking Enduro World Series.

The XTERRA Trail Run World Series is an inclusive series that invites all trail enthusiasts to join the XTERRA community as we connect, explore, and discover new and existing trails in idyllic running terrains the world over. Designed to mix community and adventure, the series is open to all runners, from amateur to elite, with races in 15+ countries. Runners compete individually, regionally or globally in the XTERRA Trail Run rankings, or push to the front of the pack in your age group to qualify for a place on the starting line at the annual and invite-only XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.

Reduce arrival and departure transportation stress by booking your spot on the XTERRA shuttle. The shuttle will pickup individuals on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 12:00 from the Portland, Maine airport (PWM) and head directly to Sugarloaf Resort. The shuttle will then leave Sugarloaf Resort on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 09:00 and head back to the Portland, Maine airport. Shuttle tickets are non-refundable and must be purchased as a roundtrip. Shuttle tickets must be purchased through the registration process. If you have already registered, you can go back into your My Active Account to make an additional purchase.

All XTERRA Trail Run World Championship qualifiers will receive one (1) free Dinner of Champions ticket included with their registration. If athletes in the championship races wish to purchase additional dinner tickets, please do so through the registration process. Vegan dinners must be selected in advance. Child dinners are for kids under 10 years old.

All aid stations will have Gatorade and water. The aid stations at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain (#2/5k) and the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center Warming Hut (#4/13k) will also be supplied with food and additional nutrition (fruit, gels, bars, snacks and hot beverages in the event of cold weather). First Aid will also be available at these stations.

For those doing the full and half marathon, we provide a list of essential and recommended equipment and items you can prepare for the race. While the following gear will not be checked pre-race, and time penalties will not be given for missing items, we strongly recommend you bring the listed essential equipment for your own safety when running on the mountain. Additional safety measures will also be in place.

Active Refund is available for purchase during registration, and will provide a 100% refund of your entry fee if you cancel for any reason up to 48 hours prior to the event.
To submit a refund application, visit refund.active.com. Have your Reference ID handy from your ACTIVE Refund Purchase Information email. Full information can be found HERE.

Exceptions: Military assignment will be considered, but not guaranteed. Email a written request to trai...@xterraplanet.com with your name, event name, and reason for the request, accompanied by official military orders.
