Hi,

we got a Galaxy VS 15kW last year and I don't understand how and what i have to supply with the latest firmware, as the UPS is somewhat different from the small older UPSs we've had up to now.

I am mainly interested in the latest firmware for the management card, what is the best thing to look for and where, so that I get the right version and can carry out the update safely if one is necessary.

I would like to check this, as a notification is sent a mail for login failures, but not from which IP this failed attempt was made. This is always sent with our older UPSs, but not with this new UPS.

I expect anybody can just type a build number in. I would like to compare the checksum of the firmware with the real build. I also would like to check if it has been signed with a Samsung certificate.

For Samsung phones, there is a handy app that provides a lot of information about the phone, including Refurbishment Check. It also shows if the device is original. It is Phone INFO Samsung. App developer thread on XDA here

Starting from Android 5.0 Block based OTA, in which the device can get an OTA when the entire /system partition matches with that does on their servers. Concerns of OP in comments are addressed here- if the system is modified OTA would fail

....File OTA tolerates some changes to the partition, such as the addition of files that are not part of the source or target build. However, block OTA does not tolerate additions to the partition, so users will need to install a full OTA overwriting any system partition modifications) or flash a new system image to enable future OTAs

I have a Samsung laptop (Galaxy Book), and am trying to install the new firmware update via Samsung Update. I keep getting an error message 'Fail: Flash error. Flash tool reported error (103). Please check log file.' I have no idea what this means, but I've tried the update several times over several days, and got the same error message. Can anyone help / advise? (I have updated to Windows 11, if that makes a difference.) Thank you.

Heimdall is an alternative, cross-platform tool to flash firmwares for the Galaxy S series of devices, including the Tab.HeimdallSome of you might not have heard but a brilliant guy one day woke up and thought 'damn it Odin' and started...

"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." This message is prominently displayed underneath a "device to PC connection" graphic. On the top left of the screen, the following information is displayed:

I have tried using Kies v.2.6, as well as v.3. Neither of them detect the phone. I downloaded Odin and a Samsung S4 firmware image, and attempted to flash it, but received a FAIL error towards the end. However, with so many versions of Odin, as well as the firmware builds available, not to mention the options and toggles available within Odin, I have no way of knowing if I'm doing this correctly.

(My first priority is to get the phone back to it's original running condition. However, if I am able to somehow circumvent this step and install a CyanogenMod (nightly build), I would prefer that, instead.)

I have used Heimdall to flash firmware to my Galaxy S4 before, but I ran into problems more recently getting it installed on El Capitan. I had to get the signed patch that is available in this thread -Dobell/Heimdall/issues/291. I found some good Heimdall basics and insights here at xda and here at kossboss.

I happened to experience intermittent USB errors (libusbx: error [submit_bulk_transfer] bulk transfer failed (dir = In): no connection to an IOService (code = 0xe00002c0)) during several attempts. By trial and error, I noticed that the errors were more common on the large system.img.ext4 file and had moved it to the final pass. By flashing the recovery and boot partitions first, I noticed the benefit of bringing online the firmware recovery process, which could open up some additional possible alternatives like ADB sideloading. Absent of any issues, I believe the flashing could be done in one pass, but I haven't confirmed.

It is important to note that the libusbx errors that I was getting was resolved by moving my USB cable to a different port on my MacBook Pro. I had read to check the cable and switch ports in other situtations, and after seeing the intermittent failures, this seemed to be the trick that allowed me to successfully flash the large system file without error and ultimately get the phone running.

My original intention was to unlock and install Cyanogenmod 12.1 on a locked AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337). This resulted in a soft-bricking of the device. Fortunately, I was able to restore the device using the following method:

STEP 1:Get your phone into "Download Mode." This is done by turning the phone off and turning it on by pressing the "Volume Down key, Home button, and the Power button, at the same time. You will be shown a screen which will read: "Warning!! A custom OS can cause..." Press the "Volume Up" key to continue onto "Download Mode."

STEP 3:Download Odin v.3.10 (or higher) from (avoid Odindownload.com - That site has malware on it) Extract the contents of this into the same folder in which you placed the firmware from step 2.

STEP 5: Click on the AP button in Odin and select the MD5 file you extracted from the firmware package you downloaded. In the options area, only Auto-Root and F. Reset Time should be selected by default.

STEP 6. In Odin, click on the Start button. THe process should take anywhere from 10-15 minutes and you will be shown a progress bar, and finally, a "PASS." notification within Odin. Allow the device to reboot on it's own.

the latest firmware update (R890XXU1EVA8) breaks the Always On Display functionality. It is only updated very rarely (15-20 minutes). I saw this is already discussed in the watch face studio section. But it not only affects watch face. Also apps using ambient mode freeze. For example, my favorite training app Seven ( =se.perigee.android.seven&hl=de&gl=US). It count downs the seconds to exercise when in ambient mode. Now it stops after a few seconds and does not continue.

I already tried to contact the customer support in Germany. But they only give me default answers like resetting the watch to factory settings. Do you know a better way how to report to Samsung developers?

AoD update interval is a Developer Issue it was fixed in an update to the design tool about a week after it was introduced. You should update the watch face your contact the original seller for a fix.

After experiencing some odd data errors, I recently discovered an important firmware update for my Samsung HD204UI (2TB F4 EcoGreen 5400rpm) hard drive. Apparently if a particular SMART command is issued during a write, the write fails and the block is marked as bad. Here is a concise report from people far smarter than I:

Yup, those "Mac instructions" are indeed for a PC, but a commenter toward the bottom of the linked page mentions that he did it on his Mac Pro somehow. I am pretty good at tweaking a Mac, but completely lost with any PC code.

I wish I could help you with the Samsung firmware update, but I'm not at all familiar with what needs to be done. If you want to try it via Windows then here are some alternatives for running it on the Mac:

1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.

Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.

I do have a copy of Windows on my MacBook Pro, but none on my army of Mac Pro's. So, it is either scramble and find another copy of Windows or pay the 13 year old neighbor PC genius to laugh at this Machead. Both ways I waste time and endure frustration. I did indeed contact Samsung to see if there was a Mac solution and after a battle just to understand the representative's heavy dialect, I was informed that there is no official Mac alternative. So, it is worth $5 in shipping to send the hard drive back as a warranty RMA.

You absolutely do not need Windows to apply the update. What those instructions are telling you is how to burn a bootable FreeDOS CD with the updater. Having done that, you boot the CD and apply it. One of the comments on the page has a link to a page (in German) from which you can download a pre-made bootable image. Burn it in Disk Utility, boot from it, and follow the directions. I can't vouch for its validity, but that's the idea.

Thanks for correcting my train of thought (and reading the German text). I did translate some of the text as well and downloaded an .iso file. Can you (or anyone else) tell if these files will boot up my Mac Pro before I find the time to experiment with burning a disc and the Samsung firmware update?

The only way to find that out is to try it. Remember, I'm not telling you this disc will correctly update your firmware, or for that matter, that it won't destroy the drive completely. Don't even consider using it unless you have at least two independent backups of all data on all connected drives.
