Let me say Hello first. 

I'm a longtime Picasa and Picasa Starter user. My previous computer had two databases that I choose each time from Picasa Starter.

Now my problem - you may have guessed - my computer crashed!

C: drive gone 

D: Data drive with my photos still available.

I downloaded Picasa and Picasa Starter, and I'm in the process of installing Picasa because Picasa Starter says to do that first. But I hesitated.

I have various backups. II hope my 2  Picasa database are still somewhere on those backups.

Question now:

What would be the correct order of doing a reinstallation? 

Find database first? 

Let Picasa find my photos? 

Note: I have in my two database indexed most many photos but only the fitting ones, not all, and also indexed separate folders in each database. 

Of course, I have hundred of faces tags and thousand of ignored faces. 

I regularly saved the face tag information to the Metadata (in Picasa menu "Experimental") So those should still be in my photo folders.

When I get home, I may have something to guide you.  I set up a virtual link from my C: drive to a RAID1 D: drive where the photos all reside.  I have the documentation at home.  It is similar to this document I just found.  I think I did this using DOS commands.

1. I am not familiar with Picasa Starter.  Is it  a separate program?  How is it different from just starting picasa3.exe? 

2. Does electing the save face tags to metdada do this for all pictures in its database, or only for new ones?

3. Has anyone found a way to get google maps working with Picasa again?
