Hello,

My wife was running out of space on her C: drive due to 12 GB of
Google Picasa databse files. Googling for some help I came across
Picasa Starter. Tested it out on my Picasa first (only 1.5 GB) and
succesfully moved my Picasa DB to my larger data drive. Awesome!

But then when I tried doing the same with my wife's I'm gettin
multiple "CBlockFile::RestoreErr=2" messages when trying to launch
Picasa via Picasa Starter.

Each of the file that error out do exist, but they get deleted and
replaced with empty files when Picasa Starter runs. Then Picasa
launches and it's completely empty. Looking at the DB directory it's
gone from 12.4 GB to 7 GB.

I've copied the original files all back and tried this now 4x, redoing
the configuraiton and verifying NTFS permissions, but each time gives
the same results.

I followed the exact same process that worked with my system, but with
different results. Both systems are Window 7 SP1 64-bit.

Any suggestions?

Did you copy your wife's database files first to the database directory you created from PicasaStarter or not?

If you did, possibly the database is correct, and it's better to try to create yet another new directory and let picasa rediscover all your wife's pictures (add the correct folders uding tools/folder manager)...

Hi:
The CBlock error messages are very common over on the Picasa forums, especially when going from Picasa 3.8 to Picasa 3.9, and nobody seems to know why.

As Peter says, this error means your database is corrupt and needs to be rebuilt.  Was your wife already using Picasa 3.9 before you installed PicasaStarter?

I assume you still have her pictures in their original locations. Does Picasa still work ok if you use the original database or run it without PicasaStarter?

Is it Possible that your wife was using Picasa 3.8 before you started on this project and it has updated to 3.9? If it is 3.9 make sure it is updated to the latest version which is Build 136.04 (last time I looked).

1. - If you have to rebuild your database, as Peter says the best way is probably to create an empty database, then start Picasa with it, and after telling it not to scan, go to Picasa's Tools - Folder Manager and point it at your Picture folders, and let it rebuild the database from the Exif and .picasa.ini data.

1. Alternate - An alternative that might keep the data more complete would be to make another copy of the original database you saved right after the PS install, and in the copy delete the db3 folder from the Picasa2 folder or rename it to db3old, then run Picasa on that database and let it recreate all the data.

If you have already copied the Pictures over to the new drive, You might as well do 1. above since the original database wouldn't know the new Picture location anyway.

If the above sounds wrong, give us smoe more details on the exact process you are going through
