Alt.binaries.pictures.wallpaper is a usenet newsgroup dedicted to
wallpwper sized images, if its a monitor screen resolution sized image
its cool to post. You'll find hundreds posted there every week, I'm
posting up 1000 over the next three weeks. Max post is 50 a day with
indexes for 10 or more and nudity hast to be tagged in the subject
line, we get kids through this group to so we don't like hard core
porn.

Walrus (Wallpaper Gurus)is group competition that runs every week
starting on a Sunday when last weeks winner posts a source image and we
all go and make our interpretation of the source into a wallpaper then
from Friday through till Sunday we all vote the winner who then posts
the next source. You can see this weeks comp submissions
http://weeklywalrus.com/Thumbs/ and their is also an archive
http://weeklywalrus.com/ of all the previous entries over the last 155
weeks! Yes we've now been running for about 3 years.

That said I hope this group gets off to a good start but can I say lets
keep the images large, very large, I get so tired visiting websites
that have beautiful images but so small they have no impact at all.

Does anyone know if it's possible to post images into a Google Group?

It seems as though they have a lot of space to give away, they just
increased our Gmail boxes to 2G, and have plans to increase them still
further, and the Gmail system is still in beta, for that matter so are
the Google Groups.

It would be great to be able to post images here as well as on our
websites...

I found this when browsing the Google help pages:

Q: Can I post an image or share a file with my group?

A: You can post photos or files to your group by emailing them as
attachments to your group's email address. When doing so, please keep
the following in mind:

- the size limit for attachments is 1MB
- you can only post attachments to a Google Group (not to a Usenet
newsgroup)
- you can only post attachments via email (not through the Google
Groups interface)

Once your message is in your group's archive, it will stay there as
long as your group exists or until you remove it. Also, we don't offer
a specific file storage system or a way to view attachments online, so
you'll need to download each image or file individually in order to
view it.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I guess Google Groups are still very much in their beta stage, this is
a very primitive solution indeed...

Hi Kingdom,

Welcome aboard, it sounds as though you have much to offer. The Weekly
Walrus Contest sounds like a lot of fun, I think I shall probably have
a go at it.

I have a question for you, I live in Mexico and I don't think our IP
offers NNTP server protocols, so getting news through Outlook Express
is not possible. Is there a web based way of joining the WW newsgroup?
