AVI SPLITTER - PLEASE HELP

to my beloved borthers....
i have an avi splitter working, but when i try to split into 2 files
the movie (divx.avi file with 780 mb) into mpeg, when i try to play the
splitted movie he is asking about the CODEC support?
what is Codec anyway? what it does with my download movie?
the mpeg plays but only the audio is playing not the picture movie? i
guez somebody alreaday doing this stuff?
as of now i have a full version of DivXCreate? how can i convert the
DivX avi into mpeg that will play the picture and audio?
can you give me more ideas how this things will work?
