Timeline only goes up to 2021

I've rebuilt, and even completely cleaned out my picapport data directory entirely thinking maybe I had some funky cached data, but no, my timeline is stuck at 2021 and I can't figure out why.  I have many pictures in 2022 and 2023, and I can see them in folders, I can search for 2022, etc.  

I use the timeline a lot, so I really miss this functionality and I am quite puzzled why it's broken.  It seemed to stop in May 2021 and there's nothing newer shown.   I can also search for oct 2021 for example and it finds images.  Also, if I go to a folder with an image which isn't showing in the Timeline the metadata looks correct and I can view photos from the same day, etc, so it seems that Picapport knows the date of the images just fine, just isn't showing them in the timeline.

I think I just realized something; it seems to be related to my phone images.  I'm actually only seeing photos from my Canon camera in the Timeline, but my phone photos aren't there at all.  Maybe the timeline requires a specific EXIF tag that the Phone doesn't have?

...have you checked what the oldest photo in the directory is?

documentation: .... The Timeline (since version 8.1) displays all directories in their temporal context, regardless of their position in the directory tree. Decisive for
the position (chronological order) of a directory in the Timeline is the oldest photo in the directory.

Ooof, that's it then.   I just dump all my phone pictures in one directory.  Thank you for that info, I had searched all over but missed that.  I'll break up that folder into years. :)
