What cryptographic encryption does you guys follow in USER ID creation?

In current latest version (master branch in git), user ID is identified
by SHA224 hash of X.509 self-signed certificate in DER format generated during new
user
setup. Certificates have RSA public/private key pairs with variable
length larger than 4096 bits.
