Is the problem with surface mount the fact that you can't mount them
on your board?

Is a solution for this problem, with a bit of practice you can solder
these sm type devices, have seen a few good tutorials on the web.
Cheers

Yep I haven't done any surface mount soldering. Maybe I must start
learning that....
Thanks for the link I might order couple of those adapters. But still
I think there must be quite a many I2C-chips on DIP-package.
I just have to locate the codes for them and then find a shop that can
deliver them.
The link I gave to NXP - is good one and I am going through it. Does
anyone know other manufacturers web-address where is a list of
I2C-chips?

Yep I found couple of myself but I need to practice that myself.
Maybe now is as good as any other time.
Thanks again

Apart from the normal of RS, Farnell, Maplin etc I don't know of any
that specialise in DIP packages, though I am sure there must be one.
But I would imagine that price would be a premium. I think you really
would be advised to practise sm soldering maybe get an old board from
a scrap printer etc for practise rather than waste good components.

yep. Problem in practising with old board is that it is quite
difficult to get components of the board without expensive equipment -
hot air blowers (I don't know the right term in english - maybe you
can tell me). In Finland those stations cost severall thousand euros.
I am going to get one - but I have to save a bit. I saw an video in
net on which it was shown how to solder surface mount chips with
conventional soldering iron. It did not seem very difficult. So I
might try with some surface mount I2C chips. They are not too
expensive.
On the other hand I need a PCB-board to solder those. I don't yet have
equipment to make PCB-boards for surface mount chips. Total cost for
such equipent in Finland is about 600 euros. Until now I have used
those experiment boards with copper conduits going on the surface.
So I am going to get to age of surface soldering but not as of yet. I
might practise once or something like that. I know I can get ready
made boards from Olimex for 30-40 euros - which is not bad.
I will hunt again from NXP site for DIP-packaged chips and if I get
the list done I will post it here.
Thanks again

I will try get those.
