Good afternoon.
Several months ago, Reconcilers were sent to Peace in Christ on behalf of the Southeastern District to diagnose congregational conflict and facilitate healing. As announced this morning in Bible Study and Service, the Elders and I will be sharing their final
report (at the request of both the Reconcilers and District President) with the congregation on
Saturday, May 31st at 6:00 pm. Food will be provided, as well as rides for those who need them. All are strongly encouraged to come.
There’s been much congregational discussion and misinformation shared about why the Reconcilers came, what they found and diagnosed, and what they’ve suggested to the congregation as next steps for healing.
As shared briefly this morning, the Reconcilers report that Peace in Christ struggles with a debilitating, decades-long culture of slander and gossip that has affected current and former members, current and former lay leaders, and current and former pastors.
The primary conflict hasn’t arisen only in the last several months or years, but includes long-term unresolved issues. The Reconcilers stress that the primary conflict is between the congregation as a whole and the Lord.
Several congregants have asked if they could share some of their own feelings and experiences at the meeting. If I did not confirm with you directly, please reach out to me by email so that I have a rough idea of who wants to share a few words to encourage
collective ownership, healing, and reconciliation.
If you can’t come to the meeting, please let the Elders and I know, so that we can set up a time to share the report with you one-on-one.
This report and the recommendations that follow are important starting steps as we as a congregation admit our collective wrongdoing, heal, and build anew in Christ.
In His peace,
Pastor Singer
