My client has a 1906 Chickering 123 and while regulating the action, I noticed one of the brass whippen flanges (as pictured) was cracked. While not an exact replacement, would No. 517 Repair Flanges in the Schaff catalog work for this?

Regi,
There are/were several iterations of those. I have some in stock. Not sure what the current Schaff thingee is regarding size, etc.
Best,

The Schaff 3d printed replacement is actually quite good. Dimensions are correct. I have a few. Cheap too. Direct pinning, no screw or plate.

I just ran into a Scale 123 with the same problems, Peter.
Is there a Schaff part number for those?

Ben

The way I see it, I'm wondering how they will hold up over time. Time will tell. Meanwhile, you still have me to make obsolete parts!<G>

Joe,

Seems to me I contacted you a couple years ago about this very issue and you didn't want (or couldn't) accommodate. Actually I think you said something about modifying something to fit something...i don't remember what exactly but I was not about to do it.

Peter,
Hmmm? Specifics seem to be lost there. Brainfart perhaps?<G> Depends on what it was that you requested. There are some parts that are too difficult/expensive to justify the effort. Give me specifics please. OR,....you were unable to send me a good part as a pattern?
Best,
Joe

I found the email. You said they very complicated to duplicate and that I should modify a standard wood flange instead but gave no specifics as to how to do it, but anyone with a good wood shop could do it.

I elected not to spend time trying. Fortunately the guys at Schaff have stepped up to the plate. Yes, my first concern was longevity, but then again the same is true with brass (obviously). If it lasts 10-15 years it will be well worth it. They've done their homework it looks like.

Again, specifics are missing! Sheesh! What was "very complicated to duplicate"? As for specifics of how to do it? You probably didn't think to ask. Since, most who contact me for duplication, have a full blown shop, but don't have the inclination to do what I do, then my statement stands: "..just modify a standard flange, etc....." There are a lot of factors to be considered in that process, such as turnaround time, cost and the chance that the good sample part will get lost in the shuffle, (i.e. USPS or UPS)
IMO if a part will only last 10 to 15 years, it was a piece of garbage part to begin with.
Early on in my career I thought the same thing. Then,....flash forward 40 years and counting, I run into parts and such that I worked on back then. Definitely rethought the philosophy of all of it. We should aim for long longevity, every time imo. So, I ask again, are those plastic parts up to the task? Only time will tell. Another thing that has not been mentioned is price. curious about that.
Best,
Joe

Peter,
You seem to relish languishing in generalities, and non specifics. Why is that?

I didn't realize I came across that way. Not trying to.
