Wherethe Fronx, Brezza and Grand Vitara make up the conventional SUV lineup, the Jimny will target those looking at a traditional SUV, a lifestyle product, or just something that will stand out in the crowd. Despite this being a Maruti, the number of interested people will swell to a huge one pretty quickly.

The 9.0-inch screen runs the latest Maruti Suzuki Smartplay pro+ OS with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. By the time this car hits the market, we expect that it too will get wireless smartphone mirroring. Other features on this top-spec model include button start, cruise control, power mirrors, power windows, colour MID, steering-mounted audio controls, keyless entry and Arkamys sound system. The Jimny, when launched in India, will be offered with the 1.5-litre K15B engine that produces 102bhp/136Nm and can be had with either a five-speed manual or an India-specific four-speed torque converter automatic.

The Jimny might be an old-school, ladder-on-frame petrol SUV but it is not the first one from Maruti Suzuki in India. In fact, that honour goes to a motoring icon in the form of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.

Launched in India in 1985, it was a compact SUV before the term even came to life. Initially offered with a 1.0-litre three-pot petrol, it eventually went on to be offered with a 1.4-litre petrol engine, mated to a five-speed manual. As standard, it got differentials and a transfer case. It had boxy looks, high bonnet squared-off wheel arches, a side-hinged tail gate, and a boot-mounted spare. Sounds familiar? Yup, the Jimny is a modern incarnation of the Gypsy, call it if you will, a descendent of the Gypsy, or as it was globally known- the Samurai.

The car is expected to be launched in India, later this year, with a price in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). The Jimny, in this price bracket, will lock horns with the Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Bolero Neo, and of course, the entry-level version of the Mahindra Thar.

Additionally excluded from this warranty are parts which are subject to normal wear and tear, such as bushings, fluids, hoses, gaskets, belts, etc. Products not manufactured by Trail-Gear Inc. are excluded from any warranty and shall be handled with the original manufacturer.

All parts used in a competitive racing environment are excluded from this warranty. If, after inspection, a part returned, under any warranty, is deemed to be ineligible for warranty repair or replacement, the part may be repaired or replaced for a discounted cost. Return shipping charges will apply. Any part for which a warranty replacement is sought must be returned to Trail-Gear Inc. before any replacement items can be shipped. All replacement parts shipped before the suspect part has been received and evaluated by Trail-Gear, MUST BE PAID IN FULL. In such a case, after the suspect part has been received and approved for a warranty replacement, the purchase price for the replacement will be refunded.

If any of the above mentioned policy is not met, the package will be refused or warranty claim denied. By completing the steps above, this will ensure faster processing of your claim so that Trail-Gear can get your product back to you as quickly as possible. Updated on August 16, 2023: The Suzuki Jimny is a capable off-roader designed for markets in countries focused on compact and fuel-efficient vehicles. But that does not mean they shouldn't be sold worldwide, so we have decided to update this piece. It would truly be a shame to see the Jimny lost in the shuffle, so stay tuned for more updates as they happen.

The Suzuki Jimny represents a dying breed of minimal, short, and highly capable 4x4 off-roaders aimed directly at true enthusiasts. It has a classic body-on-frame design with a ladder-on-frame chassis. This, coupled with solid beam axles on both ends, makes the Jimny more durable but also allows for easy modifications, especially since this has become synonymous with off-roading.

The short wheelbase of the Jimny makes it nimble and reactive over harsh angles, and although the rather cute 1.5-liter engine producing 101 horsepower may feel like bringing a retractable knife to a gunfight, its weight of 2,400 pounds gives it just enough horsepower per ton to make it a fun off-roading experience.

All in all, with a small and durable body, ladder-frame chassis, its AllGrip Pro 4x4 system mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic - The Suzuki Jimny offers an unadulterated and stripped-down experience that only true enthusiasts would recognize. It is, in many ways, comparable to the Jeep Wrangler, which is arguably the only other short-wheelbase off-roading experience within financial reach.

While glossing over the various specifications between these two 4x4s, it becomes apparent that they both belong to two very different brackets, under the umbrella of good and cheap off-roaders. The Jeep Wrangler has a 3.6 liter V-6 engine that produces about 281 horsepower with 255 pound-feet of torque. Looking at just the engine specifications, one may think that the Jeep is twice the car, but it is also twice the money. The Suzuki Jimny, if officially on sale in the U.S., would cost a buyer approximately $14,500, just about half the asking price of a Jeep Wrangler, which starts around $30,000.

You can also argue that the Suzuki Jimny may come off as the more capable off-roader under specific conditions, especially on steeper terrain. This is mainly due to its superior departure, approach, and break-over angles over the Wrangler. Overall, it is safe to say that if the Suzuki Jimny was put on sale in the U.S., Jeep would definitely have a lot to worry about. At this price point, it offers a very similar off-roading experience to that of the Jeep Wrangler, and especially in the world of off-roading, cheap, practical, and easy to fix are the words enthusiasts look for.

If you are a resident of the U.S., chances are you already know that even the new 2023 Suzuki Jimny will not be made available in showrooms across America.
